I don't agree with your categorisations of these players' strengths. Dembele wasn't a passer. After shooting, it was probably the weakest area of his game. Dembele's strength was as a transition player, who broke through lines by running with the ball and using his strength to shield it. That is exactly the role that Sissoko has played this season. Wanyama can do that too, as we saw today.

Dier is a decent passer and much more than a destroyer/work horse. Winks is tenacious and covers well.

All of them have been top four quality central midfielders over the last few seasons.

I would agree though that we need to bring in an additional cover here over the summer,although that could be addressed if Alli or Eriksen dropped back there and we signed an attacking player instead.
I agree with almost all of that. But I would be sceptical of moving Alli/Eriksen deeper as signing another attacking midfielder at their level will be very difficult and they both look better further forward.

Very good to have Wanyama back and looking like his form is coming back with our injury problems. Was a very composed finish too.

The most likely way of it happening would be if Poch switched to 4:3:3 next season.
 
Wonder if he will start on Wednesday. Based on that performance he should and we could do with some good strong defensive cover where we'll be up against it for long periods of the game.

I suppose it depends what his fitness is like after yesterdays game, if he is fit i would play him for sure.

Yeah I thought Wanyama did OK but at the start of the game, he was the deep man in a diamond

The 4 at the back were being stretched i.e. Rose tried to follow De Bruyne inside but there was Silva even wider, Rose had no chance. Likewise for Trippier, he would follow a runner inside and then realise Sterling was still out wide, behind him. So Wanyama had no chance really...

Then at 2-2 Sissoko came back to help him so we had 2 in front of the defence... City stopped scoring... but then Sissoko went off.

Then it was just a 4-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-11-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-11111 formation where everyone was everywhere and nowhere at the same time... mostly whilst Dele tried to nutmeg 7 players in midfield. What could go wrong?
 
Did very well, few bad passes but looked promising and made some great tackles and blocks.

I'm convinced the free kick he gave away for their 3rd wasn't a foul either, barely touched him.
 
I have to say he looked quite lost tonight. I'm surprised since he played fairly well recently, but maybe he's still not quite ready to be playing after returning to the training.
