Racism on this forum

Why should a person's choice of religion be an issue? The fact that a person chooses to believe in GHod does not mean their beliefs will necessarily impact on you or anybody else in a negative sense. I have no time for fundamentalists, but because a person has their faith as the guiding principle in their life I see that as not being a problem as long as they are not thrusting their beliefs down your throat.

You may scoff at them and as you call it their imaginary friend, but my attitude is live and let live. I have learnt that some people use their religion to further their own agenda by what ever means necessary, but not everyone is like that.
What if their religion does impact on others - like Israeli footballers?

Thanks for your permission to scoff - I guarantee you I'll make good use of it.

Racists don't differentiate Muslim Arabs and non Muslim Arabs, that's the point, for them they are the same (Muslim terrorists) there isn't the distinction you are making.
And they are in the wrong. I do make that distinction.

Difficult to tell. I'm not Muslim. I'm not Arab. I don't believe they had a discussion beforehand on whether they would choose to attack me over my skin colour/ancestral origin or supposed religion.
In which case it was clearly skin colour and they were very much in the wrong to do so.

I take this is aimed at me, were you called a 'bomber', or something else? You've put it in quotation marks so it's not clear.
And it's not inferred at all, it a stereotype of Scots oft trotted out. And like most stereotypes totally untrue in my experience.
Also its not just that a scot won't buy a drink but that they are mean, misable and unwelcoming.

I do note that you are playing this down when I can point to several cases in popular culture where this is still portrayed, or at least repeated as 'classic' entertainment.

Racism, bigotry and prejudices exist and are all too common in this world, I condemn each and every one of them.
The only way to improve it is through education, and you can't tell kids that it's OK to call Jimmy one thing but not John another.
Wrong is wrong, it can't work any other way.

As an aside the Scots thing does not bother me in the slightest but I know plenty it deeply offends. We all have our soft spots though and I can totally understand why people get upset.

It wasn't aimed at you, it was in context of what I had read so apologies if it looked like I was singling you out.

In that particular instance I was called a bomber.

I do think context needs to be taken on subjects like this. I don't think Scara is a racist and actually he's not stated anything incorrect in this thread due to semantics and language I believe he's always very careful when he engages in discussion to be factual. I simply cannot agree with his stance because of personal experience and the tidal wave of vitriol it allows others that are racist to justify their views and actions. But mostly, he has a rather weird obsession with Salah and Islam in particular that doesn't sit right with myself and I believe others on this forum.

I agree, wrong is wrong and the best way to improve is through education. I think where you've mentioned bigotry and prejudices is important. This thread is getting bogged down with whether calling a Muslim a pigfudger or a bomber is racist or not (that's a line I never thought I'd write). And it's also not acceptable to me that a Scottish person should feel deeply offended by stereotyped comments about their character, as you mentioned in your post. May I ask, I think you have posted previously of experiencing racism? Because of this, do you think the semantics matters when intent is there? Not trying to catch you or call you out, just curious.

Salad didn't. Except from me - everyone else seems to be fine with it.

If you are referring to him refusing to shake hands with Israeli players then I can assure you I was disgusted when I read it. Which is why although I thought he was a good player I really did not care about him joining us. I am also aware that not all muslim players behaved like him

He has every choice.

I was raised a Christian but simply applied logic to my thought processes and realised how fudging ridiculous everything about that religion is.

He can also choose to shake the hands of Jewish players if he so chooses but instead chose to be a clam.
I think we can all agree that he's a clam. Who is a muslim, and egyptian.
I don't like any of those. And in the same way as I don't like right wing people; none of those I've met have been very nice people.
That's not rasists. It's having an opinion.

And I don't refer to all Muslim players in pejorative terms (except those that insult their intelligence).

More to the point, without them being overtly offensive, like Salad, I wouldn't even know if they were Muslim or not.
