Assange

I doubt it. He'd have released it by now or used it to help him get out to another country.

If he does then I need TP for my bunghole, look forward to seeing it.
I think you are right. The RNC was also hacked and nothing was released, and you can imagine the juicy tidbits in there. I doubt that Assange has any of that material at his disposal though. Putin has that card up his sleeve for later use I would think (or he's already using it against the GOP).

He'll be going to prison for skipping bail.

He jumped bail to avoid extradition to Sweden to face rape and sexual assault charges. Backing him against that is a very bad look.

I find it hard to trust anything or anybody at face value in this charade. Especially where there is US and British governments are involved.

I don't think that there is anything to disbelieve in what I posted, it is all on the public record.

This article by David Allen Green from 2012 sets out the sexual assault and rape allegations against Assange very clearly and explains the legal position.

https://www.newstatesman.com/blogs/media/2012/09/legal-mythology-extradition-julian-assange

It is worth reading because there has been a clear attempt by Assange's supporters to muddy the waters over the last nine years and a lot of comments/reporting about the Swedish case are incorrect.

But Corbyn/Abbott are against his extradition to the USA -- as I understand it (from all of my 10 minutes reading about this!) that's not to do with any rape charges.

I'm gonna make a leap and say that the yanks want this guy because he embarrassed them -- hard to say they are the good guys in Iraq when the leaks expose torture of prisoners and the gunning down of civilians. He might well have broken laws in how he obtained this information, but I don't think the yanks care so much about the rule of law, as sending a message to whistle-blowers: "Show us in a bad light and we will send you to a super-max prison, no matter where you try and hide."

Abbott conflated the two and got the basics wrong about the Swedish case. She claimed that charges hadn't been brought and the extradition request dropped, neither of which is true (or being generous, is a misrepresentation of the truth). Whether Assange is extradited to Sweden or the US is a matter for the courts, not politicians.

I think those waters were already expertly muddied by who knows who and for whatever reason.
Milo, I trust no one in these type of matters, the truth is the first the flushed down the crapper on the back expedience.

Perhaps, but this whole affair seems very political to me. IMO the politics of the situation will affect the outcome as much as anything else.

Did you read the article? The sexual assault and rape allegations have faced judicial scrutiny a number of times in both the UK and Sweden. This is a matter of public record. It does not mean that he is guilty of them but the appropriate way for this to be shown is for him to go to Sweden and stand trial. To run away from this is an act of cowardice and if he is guilty, cruelty to his victims.

There is nothing political about the sexual assault and rape allegations that he skipped bail to avoid.

He deserves a day in court if northing else. Probably deserves time behind bars.

An egomaniac who believes his own hype and believes he's beyond justice. Not to mention his potential links to Russia and other dodgy sources.

It also states that extradition (as yet unrequested I believe) from Sweden would be far from simple or easy.

He would in fact be safer there than here.

Which then smacks more of him not wanting to face the rape charges, which says a lot in and of itself.

Whether guilty or not, they are valid - as are the calls for his return. And after all the fireworks of the wikileaks angle, there are women having made accusations yet to see justice (at least, the process of justice).

Quite right, which is why the Americans will say "off you go to Sweden Mr. Assange, to face the music."

It would not be for the American's to decide. Our courts would decide which took precedence if the Swedish resumed their extradition request.

There was no extradition request from the US when he skipped bail to avoid being extradited to Sweden. There can be no argument that he has been avoiding facing trial for rape and sexual assault for these last seven years and that his behaviour has meant that one of the cases is now statute barred.

No, I didn't M8.

My only observation on the line above. Is he if hadn't run he probably thought he was going to end up in Guantanamo.
If they lock him up for the rapes he must serve his time in Sweden.

So if they don't request extradition and allow the Swedes to do so, then our courts can decide if they want to send him back to Sweden? The yanks don't care about the rape charges though, they care about getting the guy who embarrassed them with leaks they'd rather were kept a secret. So it is obviously political on their part, unless you really believe their primary motivation is the rule of law (a first time for everything I suppose).

Trumps not going to lock him up, more likely to pardon him after all the assistance in 2016.
