Danny Rose

Spot on. The guardian journalists talks about how they love him as he provides honest and therefore potentially controversial interviews. What he didn’t add is that gives the opportunity to shape his comments into something that will invite more clicks / sales regardless of how they were intended.

The £80k a night out comment actually does have something in it - it’s not about his or any other players excesses, it’s given that there is so much money in the game how can a fine less than a club will pay one of its players a week be an actual deterrent. Danny seems to turn all of the issues into personal ones - I don’t enjoy playing, I want to leave to go up North, I want to us to sign players, I don’t like playing at a Wembley and if he had some coaching in delivering these messages differently there’d be less opportunity for the message to be clouded by the ‘millionaire footballer hates his job’ narrative.

It’s the same in all professions, I work for an investment bank and I see / occasionally spout a few ‘first world problems’ that a lot of the population would probably like to have and wouldn’t see as issues at all!

Media training is part of my work, so I tend to view articles - and Danny's comments - through that lens. I'm sure - or at least I hope - that Danny has had some media training, but in his own interests, and if he wants to be an effective advocate, he needs more help.

Having spent a few years in banking recruitment in the city.
The obscene amounts spent on a night out 'in town' no longer surprise me.
Danny is my cup of tea, he shoots from the hip (can't cross though:p) not always the most delicate or eloquent but its what he feels and I like it.

Punishing countries for racism what 'some' spend on out is just wrong.

As for the rest of Danny's criticism, its spun for media effect or clicks.

Wouldn't be surprising, I've always thought it must be a weird world to live in. Education a rarity. Trophy wives and golf. Weird.

You make it sound like an Old Etonian, racism has a terrible effect on people and ruins their lives, it drove my cousin out of Britain in the late 60's an action his mother never got over.

I'd bet Danny's quote about the night out wasn't related to the £80,000 number and that's the danger with articles like this. The paragraph preceding the quote reads:

"There was widespread criticism of Uefa in 2012 when the governing body ordered Serbia to play their next under-21s fixture behind closed doors and fined them €80,000. Other fines have been substantially smaller. Montenegro face a partial closure of their stadium, at least, for their next Euro 2020 qualifier if found guilty by a Uefa commission on 16 May."

I'd be pretty sure Rose was talking about the smaller fines when equating it to what he spends on a night out. I don't think the journo deliberately misled anyone either but maybe I'm being naive.

I agree

THINK ABOUT THE CONTEXT - HE IS MAKING A POINT THAT THE FINE IS TINY.......NOT THAT HE GOES OUT AND SPENDS 80K ON A NIGHT OUT.

My take also.
This type of skewed reporting is part of the problem not the solution.

I think we will start to see teams walking off now although if a game is critical for a tournament qualification then players may have to go against their FA wishes.
I am a bit surprised tbh that this would not already have been discussed within the England camp as what happened in Montenegro can’t have been totally unexpected.

The fact that a country is being fined more than an employee of a notoriously low paying club tells you Al you need to know.

I've always liked Rose as a player, I like the way he plays the game. But he doesn't seem dependable right now, not just today's game but just lately. We need a Steady Eddie imo, we need 4 of them. If we stop phucking up at the back, we will win enough games because we pretty much always score.

Nah, what we need is a left back with a high ceiling, one with the quality to become a top left back, that is one thing you will not get from a Steady Eddie

In the long-term I agree with you, I was just thinking from now to the end of the season, we need players at the back that play it safe and don't make silly mistakes to gift the opposition chances.

I think Rose infront of Davies worked quite well the other night, Rose brought some energy into midfield pressing, though he wasn't very good on the ball. Davies was tidy enough at the back.

Hasn't worked in Italy though.

Wow! I can’t believe he goes out and spends that much on a night out. Shocking!

Easy done, a couple of top line escorts a few friends and some good quality charlie and don to get the party going, then fill the swimming pool up with custard and suddenly you’ve done 60k and you ain’t even got your feet wet.

It’s slightly against the whole point and idea behind it.

But it’s a shame we hadn’t already qualified, then walking off wouldn’t have had any affect on the stupid punishment UEFA would have given England.

That’s why you need the other big nations to agree to do the same - UEFA won’t find/deduct points to all the larger nations
