Christian Eriksen

It's called exaggerating for effect, it's quite a normal part of daily language. I could have said Kane, Verts and Alderweireld do their jobs much more frequently and switch off from doing their jobs for far shorter periods than Eriksen but that is a long sentence and sometimes I like to write without referring to some logic harpy on my shoulder. I still stand behind Kane, Verts and Alderweireld being more consistent than Eriksen and consistency and reliability being the hallmarks of the truly great players - Ronaldo and Messi for instance.
Every player brings something different to the table. Eriksen may have longer spells when he's struggling for form than others, but I'd venture he also has longer spells when he's not.

Not only that but even when he's struggling he still comes up with key passes and assists as well as the odd belter, and there is never a game when he doesn't put in a shift. Even when he looks like he's chasing shadows he's still clocking up the miles.

His job is to open and run play, if he can't make a high enough % of creative passes then he isn't doing his job. When his form drops I don't think he is making a high enough %, he starts to overreach, be sloppy and even chooses the wrong options (when on form he always plays the right pass, the selfless one, which is why he will suit Barca or City very well).

If he isn't meant to run play and is just a goal or assist maker like Son then we should play him accordingly. Then he could get away with playing poorly but adding assists and goals. We lose all our rhythm when he's off form clogging things up. It'd be great to keep him as for 75% of the season (normal seasons) he plays well. This season the % is lower but that's mainly because of the contract issues I reckon.

'All' Eriksen needs is some rotation and a new contract. :)

It's looking less and less likely, but the club should try as hard as it can to snag him to a new deal. Then get in someone who can compete and provide rotation. Possibly an older player who's under the radar, but has the technical ability. Eriksen suffers from being over played. If he had to be more focused, if he had to fight for his place and prove himeslf in every game, he'd no only be fresher but hungrier.

Well maybe you should do yourself a favour and not post so much rubbish as this.

And if he’s out best player he should be turning up every week.

Maybe if wasn't chasing shadows he'd be less tired and in better positions.
His running stat is used way too much. We don't pay him to run around.

We know he's not great at tackling but even when chasing shadows he's still doing his bit. I'd venture he wins possession one way or another as often as some of our more robust midfielders by stealth, craftily nicking the ball off opponents or forcing them into a hurried, misplaced pass.

There's more than one way to skin a cat you know.

That there is. I wonder if all the Eriksen-haters on here would have slagged off Hoddle for not breaking legs and winning headers. There is no doubt that Eriksen is not at the peak of his powers - as evidenced by his lack of free kick goals - but he is a unique player in our squad, works his g0nads off, and on his day can change things (remember his last minute goal against Burnley to win it at Wembley?). He may (or may not) be off - I am not an expert in body language like many on here - but he has played a part in some of our most scintillating moments over the recent years (remember his winner at the Etihad a few years ago?).

How's chasing shadows doing your bit?
You'd venture, care to back that up with some stats? After all the running stat is pulled out quick enough. I'd actually venture that this year he has given the ball away as often as he's won it back.
No one is questioning his talent, but he is off form, that cannot be denied, why is it not OK to discuss this without being labelled at best a moaner and at worst with snide comments that intimate you know nothing about football.
There's some on here who think he can do no wrong.

Against Southampton he won joint high most tackles for us and 2nd most interceptions.

Highest key passes for us, highest passes made and third highest completion - the two below him made at least 11 passes less than him

Son had 100 percent but only made 11 passes.

Against Southampton, are those stats for one game?
A lot of his passes recently have been return passes of 5 to 10 yards straight back where it came from so that stat can be misleading.
Are seriously saying he's not off form?

I’ve not said he’s not playing at his highest level.

But the witch hunt for one of our best players is unreal.

Also, what’s wrong with keeping the ball?

I don't see a witch hunt i see a few posters being over protective of a player who is getting some overdue criticism

I'm with @Legohamster on this one ..

Trippier, Aurier, Rose, Lucas, Davies, Winks (yes), Lamela, Wanyama (when he has played), Dier (again, when played) have all had markedly worse seasons than Eriksen, yet this thread boils down to

- Well if Eriksen is good, it doesn't matter that the defense is brick (and he often has to cover), it doesn't matter that the FBs are brick (and aren't widening the pitch to make the space for the incisive passes), it doesn't matter that Winks, Lucas, Lamela haven't been consistent, he should just boss the game .. bit of flimflam honestly.

People had these same conversations re Carrick & Modric btw ...

All the players you named have got plenty of ciritism, why shouldn't Eriksen? He's been poor for some considerable time now, there is nothing wrong with it being questioned whether it would be beneficial for all parties if he would be moved on - maybe a change of scenery would wake him up, and we can invest and change tactics in terms of the way we play accordingly - Not that anyone is saying he should definitely go, just looking at whether it might long term be more beneficial if he does. There isn't one person saying he hasnt got the talent, people have been questioning his desire and mentality - look at Dele, and look at Eriksen there is no comparison in terms of digging in when the going gets tough and producing....
