Mauricio Pochettino - Sacked

I get the feeling that if Poch ever leaves, it might not be for another job. He’d happily walk away if trust was broken, we had a new owner he didn’t agree with etc and just wait it out until another good one came along. I fear a breakdown in trust more than I do another club vacancy becoming available.

Thinking one of Poch’s challenges is that one of the key insights he had that helped us over-compete was fostering an amazing team spirit. We did this better than most other clubs, but I think a lot of other clubs has gotten wise to it now and have been careful to cultivate something similar, and it means he will have to find another insight to compete ahead of at least two of the top 6.

He also had good insights around a modern system, and with fitness and conditioning, and tactical flexibility with regards to systems. So he’s kept up with peers and helped us keep competing, but I’d say our spirit on the pitch looks a little less than our rivals right now, and that’s something that needs to recover. And if most of our rivals have good spirit, we need something else. This is alongside building a mentality to get it done in the biggest moments.

Match fitness and injury resilience, rotation decisions... We seem to be trailing other clubs too. Not just team spirit

Pressing has also disappeared from our play

I wonder if this is just an attempt to mix up our play so we are less predictable, rather than an entire side just slipping off. We were definitely doing it in the first half at Saints, but it is something that the entire side needs to be focussed in on doing really well, and if one link in the chain breaks we look very bad as a side.

It also requires a lot of energy, something that we're short of with the world cup in the summer and injuries through the season

I find it difficult to put our current travails still at the door of our guys exploits at the World Cup.
It feels like we are looking for an easy excuse. I think it’s just down to our old friend the lack of squad depth/finances.
