Summer clear-out

KWP has had a glorious opportunity to make his claim, and hasnt. Neither Trippier nor Aurier have cemented a place, and KWP just hasnt capitalised at all. Leaves me thinking he never will. Im not averse to him being in the squad, he could be a slow burn type player, but equally if we sold him today I do think his absence would go completely unnoticed.

Needless to say I do not agree with your assessment of Sissoko, and would happily let him go - but that would need to be based upon a replacement coming in. As you say, we need bodies there already so cant afford to lose someone we have been using without a replacement.

I do pose the question - is squad upheaval bad? In our case, Im not sure. Obviously there is a balance to be struck, but providing the core of the side remains Id be open to 5 or 6 ins (and outs). The sense right now is that things really need a refresh, and I dont think losing Trippier, Aurier, Wanyama, Rose (for example) ... would actually be disasterous in squad terms* or harmony terms.

*assuming decent replacements are found.

Must keep (if possible):
Lloris, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Son, Alli, Eriksen, Kane
Would keep unless much better replacement/squad/potential:
Gazzaniga, Rose, Sanchez, Aurier, Dier, Winks, Moura
Would let go but not too bothered:
Trippier, Davies, Foyth, KWP, Sissoko, Lamela
Should let go:
Vorm, Wanyama, Llorente, Janssen

100% wouldn't sell Sissoko, very good squad option who has performed well this season and generally stays fit. Offers a bit of pace and power which we don't have in midfield anymore and I doubt he will kick up a fuss being back up. More likely to get a new contract than leave. Why when he's finally showing good form would we sell him now.

First XI: Lloris, Vertonghen, Rose, Son, Dele, Kane.
Squad: Gazza, Aurier, Sanchez, Foyth, Winks, Dier, Moura.
Sell if the right bid comes in: Davies, KWP, Sissoko, Onomah, CCV, Edwards.
Sell: Alderweireld, Trippier, Wanyama, Eriksen, Lamela, GKN, Janssen, Llorente, Vorm.

I honestly think we need a massive rebuild and would like to see a change to a 433. RB, DM, CM and RWF are massive holes in our roster, but I could see us coming out alright after the window if (and it's a massive one right now) we manage to hold on to 3rd/4th.

So this season not only did we not strengthen we sold one player who could still be useful in the last stage run in - Dembele. We weakened ourselves, probably due to the poor planning around the stadium.

How?!?!?!? He's barely played!! He's been on the bench a lot, and started 1 game recently when he didnt play well. I accept that neither Trippier or Aurier have been remotely decent which has created an open door for KWP, but I can't see that he can be classed as having had a 'glorious opportunity' unless he gets a run of 5-10 starts somewhat in succession

The argument wound Poch hasn’t deemed him good enough to take their place so he has “missed” is chance

But i agree with you and think he should have been given more opportunities

These and many other situations need sorting.
I think once we get to the summer Pochettino has got to do a reset and look to the future.
I don’t think it should just rely on buying new players but looking at long term positioning of current ones?
It’s been a tough season for Pochettino! I think he has been a bit frazzled in the last few weeks.

There will be big changes this summer I expect.

Out for me:

Vorm
One of Trippier or Aurier (maybe Aurier depending on homegrown quota considerations)
Rose
Wanyama
Janssen
Llorente
NKoudou

Considerations:

Eriksen, depending on if Madrid make a move
Toby, due to contract
Lamela OR Moura - not sure why Lamela isn’t being trusted a little more if fit, would suggest Poch sees something he doesn’t like. Moura blows very hot and cold

Jansen, Vorm, GKN, and probably Llorente can and will likely leave - with zero impact to the squad. 4 out.

Decisions will need be made on Carter-Vickers, Onomah and Edwards. I suspect all seem likely to go now. 7 out.

Eriksen & Toby will go if an offer comes in. 9 out.

We then have an underperforming camp of Aurier, Trippier, Wanyama, Lamela, Moura. Whether they stay or go will depend on if Poch feels they are irreparably fooked, combined with value we could recover for them, divided by the off chance we accidentally make any signings in those positions!

Up to 14 out!!! :-O

Gut feel is Poch trusts the rest.

I think that's pretty much the long and short of it.

Looking at the numbers id say it's probably likely that of the underperforming group, as you put, less are likely to leave as it would mean too much squad turnover in a window - id hazsrd a guess that only one of those will leave, most likely Wanyama.

Not sure about the under perming bit, they don't fit in.
Eriksen and Dembele are two players who have almost unique skill sets, I can't see how we replace them like for like.
So maybe the step is a different set up that will utilise them more.
Moura especially, poch did buy him or at least sanctioned his move.
Lamela not so much as poch inherited him and can't seem to find a role for him.
