Transfer Tittle-Tattle

How about players who are getting promoted

Feels less like he is trusting them and more like an after thought, even Foyth does not seem to be coming along as I hoped he would.

When he first turned up he was quick to turn to the likes of Bentaleb and Mason because he was not happy with the more established players. I get that we are third in the league. But I feel like he has accepted a drop off in performances from some regular squad players, Rose, Lamela for example that in the past he would have turned to others or taken a chance on championship players. Just my perception of what I see.

Does seem that young English players are more desired across Europe and have been trained better at an academy level and of course we need to up the home grown element so maybe we will sign some but I dont feel he trusts them like he used to. Maybe it is the stress getting to him, the extra pressure he has seen him put upon himself to win something that means he can not trust young players anymore. As shown by the uncharacteristic outburst at the referee the other week.

I don’t agree

I just think it’s harder for players to get into teams which are now better

Look at Arsenal who have a real weakness in defence, their giving Maitkand Miles a chance as they don’t have adequate cover. We have Trippier and Aurier ahead of our development player in KWP

Ours squad is better than it was by about 20% I’d say and that’s a lot to do with his development of players

I can see a mini clear out and some youth being brought in to tweak the squad. Their are some really really string young players that would be available for what is reasonable money

Havertz could replace Eriksen for less than half his sale price
Aaron’s could replace Aurier or Trippier for their sale price
De Ligt could replace Toby but would cost double what we get for him
Brandt could replace Lamela and would cost roughly the same
Could get Sessegnon in for possibly less than they would have asked previous

Can’t think of a CF to try for but the one I’m still a little gutted about is Piatek who is getting better and better

All young gettable players

What about Maxi Gomez for upfront/wide rotation option, I think his release clause is around £45m but that's the going rate for top players nowadays.

Not seen anything of him TBF

But again their are gettable players that would potentially (not guaranteed) upgrade our squad

Aaron’s is one that people will turn their noses at yet the lad looks brilliant in the top footballing side the Championship. Then people will say Bissaka is the man, forgetting that a year ago no nnehad really heard of him ....

I’ve seen people say why would we be after Jarod Bowen, and again I’d argue that he looks a top notch prospect playing with average players. Imagine him with top players ...

I'm all for getting some good young prospects in but we also need some top level quality to mix with that who can slot straight into the first XI if needed if we want to compete and win trophies. If we go for all prospects then it will take 2/3 years for the team to come good and by then many of our current top players will have moved on.

I'd say a thing that separates someone like Wan-Bissaka from Championship prospects is that he has proven himself against top opponents. He's had good games against all the top teams I think. Whereas someone like Sessegnon was raved about in the Championship, but has looked really average in the Premier League.

If the price is right, then they are worth the risk (Dele is the best example). But imagine if we'd have paid £50-£60m for Sessegnon and he played for us like he has for Fulham this season, it would have been a disaster.

With full-backs/wing-backs absolutely crucial to the way we play, I agree with you that it is essential we get strong, fast, athletic full backs that can deliver a final ball. Don't forget Sessegnon. I think he could still be shaped into a good player for us, although Chilwell would be my first choice and probably Wan- Bassaka on the right. We should also be in for Rice - although it is doubtful that Spammers would sell to us.
The problem is that those two would probably be £80 million plus, whereas the two from the Championship would be half of that. IMO Aarons is a better player than Wan Bissaka already. Henry is not yet at Chilwell’s level, but I think he has more improvement in him and I like his pace.

I don’t class one season as proven perosnally

As @gutterboy would say, remember Benteke, Berahino and Ricketts

And I’d say that most havent seen Aaron’s play. The lad plays amazingly well for an attacking side, whereas bissaka is playing very well for a defensive side

City brought prospects to make the step up, an unproven goalie and an unproven centre back for Decent money

True, but no coincidence that those players are all forwards imo. If a defender can defend and has those attributes, it's less likely that they will go backwards off of a good season imo. For forwards, it's more common for them to hit a hot-streak and dine out on that for a time.

I'm definitely with you on buying these prospects, just not getting rinsed for them like Fulham wanted to do with Sessengnon. The price should, imo, reflect that they haven't showed it against top players yet.

But he is defending in a very defensive side

That’s my only caveat

He looks great but at £40/£50m I think there is a lot better value to be had

What prospects did City buy when they were in our position?

They brought in Ederson and Laporte for big money

Neither were proven at this level or near it arguably

Yet people say you have to buy players at our level...

Now I await someone telling me Laporte was proven but he hadn’t played European or international football and was playing for a mid table side

ederson has played 37 games in a mid standard league in Europe .... a league that lots would say isn’t better than the championship (apart from 3 teams)

Ederson was a key improvement to their system

Could also argue that Sane with only 47 first team games under his belt was a prospect

I like Henry as well, I think the new Villa manager wants to take him with him from Brentford so we would need to get in quick. He looks like a real prospect and someone we should go in for.

Anytime I see Liverpool play I keep thinking we could have signed Mane if we had been ready to pay the wages, and I feel this will be the factor that will hold this team back from achieving greatness

But at the time that would have made him our highest paid player and he woudknt have merited it, and arguably we couldn’t afford it then

Going forward we can afford more and are paying more

A lot of the players signed by Guardiola have been from outside the elite leagues and clubs, and they've been younger players with a lot of potential to get better. And they've been signed for reasonable fees, no doubt on ridiculous wages though.

In addition to those you already mention also Silva and Jesus. Other than Mahrez they've spent their biggest bucks on defenders rather than attackers.

Of course the amount of players they've signed stand out compared to most other teams other than those with wealthy owners ready to invest massive amounts in the squad.

Silva id argue wasn’t a prospect as he and ready moved country, played regular international football and champions league

But I agree with what your saying
