Mauricio Pochettino - Sacked

I like Sanchez and he’s still young. However I’d say he hasn’t improved this season and could argue he’s gone backwards. Certainly wouldn’t feel confident with him in a back four without Toby and/or Verts. He’s still way behind those two IMO.
I wonder if the summer off will help.
He has moved country twice in appx three years and played two seasons with us and a WC.
That's alot for anyone his age to experience.
He hasn't been bad. Just playing at the level we are, any shortfalls get noticed.
Rest and refocus over the summer might help.

I often think that what Poch has done at our club is the equivalent of a guy building a race car in his shed with bits from the scrap yard and the parts bin and then somehow getting it onto the grid at the Monaco Grand Prix. He's surrounded by a few Formula one teams with almost unlimited funds but somehow his driver's manage respectable finishes year on year. Now, some of the fans are wondering why his car and team of mechanics and drivers can't finish first?

When the seagulls follow the trawller, the cow is in the Field.

Only have two criticisms of Poch. 1. his forsight is not as great as his analysis. 2. he needs to do what Guardiola did - demand more clinical finishing.

It is almost a cultural thing. Create a culture and focus on being a ruthless machine that finds the net as routine. Develop the attacking setups - movement and finishing mentali1y in the side. It did not happen overnight at city. They went almost 2 years before Guardiola got rid of thier wastfulness. Remember when Guardiola came out publicy lambasting city's ability to finish their chances? Poch doesn't have their riches but he needs to lay down a marker never the less as Guardiola did - state we have to clinical. We have to focus on working space in attack, and putting teams to the sword.
I’m not sure Guardiola is a barometer to compare an actual coach who doesn’t have unlimited funds to spend.

We were clinical against Dortmund so just stating it publically after this game won’t change it. We will just keep working on it on the training ground but if a professional footballer can’t put a corner in the same place or guarantee a goal from a pen it’s fair to assume that they will also miss chances.
I’d rather us be missing chances than not creating them at all, which has been the case in the previous few games.

Definitely - a summer off for the whole squad will be great, especially for Kane, Son and Eriksen who carry their national teams hopes on their shoulders.

I actually think our chance conversion rate is pretty good. What is missing maybe is some cordination in attack, in the final third. For example, when driving into a packed centre - 2 lines of defenders - we need runners around the line of the box that the likes of Eriksen can pick a pass to. They can then pull the ball back across goal. If all this is planned it makes peoples movement and passes that much easier. We are terrrific in attack when it all clicks. But having some systems in place for when it doesn't, is what we are missing at times like Saturday. I think that would help with the accuracy of our final ball and put teams to the sword.

As individuals, Kane, Son, Eriksen can be extremely accurate with their shooting. If anything we need to create more clear chances for them. They will finish them.

I also thought Alli was a cool head in front of goal, except the United game!

So does this go back to the old plan B debate? Do we need a couple of different options on the bench (say a dribbler and target man who will physically ruffle opposing defenders) or do we actually need more variation with the existing players?

What’s a little frustrating is I thought we’d done the hard work by clawing points against Fulham, Watford and Saudi Sportswashing Machine without Kane and Alli with late goals against teams defending for their lives. I think we score almost every game we play another difference could be that we seem to concede more this season, so the argument could be it’s the margins at both ends we need to improve on in the run in.

He has done very well.
He is a miracle worker in my book.
Sadly these things come to end for a whole host of reasons, some are not in his control like the improvement of our competitors.
Our young players have done far better than I and many expected. But now our lack of new quality reinforcements has hit.
We have relied very heavily on Winks who still needs more time to strengthen and mature IMO. Sissoko has stepped up brilliantly but he can't be everywhere.
Dier and Wanyama, I have no idea of there status in the big scheme of things.
Eriksen, we have discussed him at length.

Agreed. The cow may be in the field - but the elephant is still in the room!!!!

With Solskjaer now likely to get the United job (ttfft) and Jose apparently being offered a three year deal at Real, Poch's options to move now appear to look somewhat limited. Consequently, I think it would do him and the team a power of good if he now states unequivocally that he is the Spurs manager for the foreseeable future and he intends to see the project he started fulfilled over the next couple of years. To my mind this would stop a lot of the current conjecture and anxiety around the place and would go some way to improving our team's morale and confidence. With 8 PL games left, he needs to do this now.

He has already said this before and committed to our project though; i'm sure if you scroll up you'll see where people have linked to press conferences stating this; i'm sure one he did before the Watford game is one example.

However, i do believe if he feels he has taken us as far as he can in our situation or feels he was NOT backed as perhaps he thought he would be he would walk regardless of how long his contract is..

But the Spanish paper only this weekend apparently reported him saying he would like to manage in Spain. Maybe he said "one day", maybe not. But he does seem to be allowing the speculation to flourish. He should put a stop to it now.

Whether he wants to honour his contract is another matter altogether, but he is the manager of our club at the moment and should act accordingly.

Personally, I believe this situation is unsettling the team and encouraging others to think well if the manager may be off, I should be re-evaluaing my options too. We saw what detrimental damage the speculation did under Redknapp.

Spanish papers will do what Spanish papers will do; if he comments on every newspaper article he won't even have time to say why Trippier isn't in the squad...

I’m not sure the tactic of ripping into the players in the press is working. Given the way the football world operates nowadays you have to wonder how long it is before the squad start to think, “Feck you.”

Poch is 100% right in what he is saying( imo), i posted on here a couple of seasons ago ( and took a lot of brick from some for doing so) that although our players have a lot of ability there are a few who ( imo) seem to lack the winners/winning mentality and it is showing more and more. We seem to have players who are now going through the motions rather then having the desire/balls/ attitude ( call it what you will)to force us through the crunch games ( and they have been a few over the years).

I am glad that Poch is now putting it out there and IF they are members in the squad who say "Feck you" instead of accepting that THEY are the ones who can not get us across the line then " Feck them" .

I do think the players have to take more responsibility

The very best managers cannot account for trippiers OG, every player leaving the ball yesterday, Toby standing still when Pedro ran at him... the list is endless

If we think there’s a bettee manager out there who could fix the players making those mistakes I’d love to know who?

Pep hasn’t stopped Walker making brain farts has he

Could not agree more.

I’m not sure he’s right on this one. Questioning the players’ mentality in the press doesn’t seem to have stopped our worst PL run for a number of years, so the effect doesn’t appear positive. I can’t think of a manager that the tactic’s worked for in the modern game - indeed, it usually ends up nowadays with the players staying put and the manager gone.

That would only serve to put the narrative out in the press that he was actually looking for a move and is now stuck with us.

The time to do it was 4 months ago.

Whether you think he was right to say it is a different thing as to whether what he said was actually right. Also the important players I am certain are very much with Poch - Your Lloris, Verts, Dier, Dele, Kane,Son and I bet most of the others are too. Any that can’t take that criticism will be out of our club, Poch would win that fight for sure....
