Harry Kane MBE

I think we are the only ones who think we are not cynical, most other supporters think the complete opposite.
Rose straight up dives, Son goes down very easily, Ali is Ali, Lamella is Lamella and Verts is known to be sly & Kane knows how to win a FK.

I think that to an extent this is very true.

Some fans (and not just Spurs fans, obviously) are selectively myopic and flatly refuse to acknowledge the darker side of the game when their team executes it.

Personally I'm glad that we have taken this part of the game on board and I am under no illusion that all of our players are angels. There is a time to be the nice guy and a time to push the boundries IMO.

Nah we ended up in the pubic triangle with some hearts players my mate knew

Edinburgh? We stayed at the doubletree next door last summer for a stag do. Very handy positioning!

Yeah at Hearts
I was up there with work and we had some corporate seats. Had dinner wth Dave Mackay who was very quiet
The Hearts fans on our table were adamant we would struggle with the small pitch and compact ground... we were 3 up at half time IIRC
Then afterwards some of the Hearts lads met us for a beer and we went to town with them. Pubic triangle is a great name for that area

European football only started in the 60’s, we were booted out of it in the late 80’s early 90’s thanks to Liverpool, then we were brick for 10/15 years. The early years of the competition’s were how they should be, knock out tournies, it’s only since the mid 90’s it’s become leagues with loads of games.

don’t think our record is that bad really, whose City’s top scorer? I’d imagine Aguero with less than Kane? Chelsea’s? Etc.?

Drogba has 36 goals, Lampard 25.
Aguero also has 36 for City.

With all due respect, I imagine most Spurs fans would agree with Raziel on this. And most Liverpool fans would agree with the Scouse Raziel, most Arsenal fans would agree with the Arsenal version, most Burnley fans would agree with the Burnley version etc etc.

We are all inherently biased when it comes to these things and what I find strange is that most fans, of all clubs, don't even seem to have particularly great insight into that fact. I like to think I'm relatively objective but when I'm in the stadium, logic flies out of the window and I think pretty much every chance is close, every decision the ref gives against us is a scandal, every opposing player is a dirty, diving pansy out to injure our players and all of our players are simply misunderstood innocents. This clearly is not an objective or realistic view of things. Things are slightly better when I'm not in the stadium and much better still when I'm not in match mode at all.

As I said, I was recently reminded of the Kane and Alli challenges against Emirates Marketing Project when we lost 4-1. Also as I said, I had effectively blanked this out of my memory. Watching them again, the challenges were horrific and could have caused serious injury. And came when we were being thoroughly outplayed so I'd imagine not from the most innocent of places either. Yet I imagine most of us have forgotten all about instances like that (I certainly have, I can barely remember what happened in our matches 2 months ago)!

We have played that way, the 'battle of the bridge' and that Emirates Marketing Project game for instance comes instantly to mind and I'm sure there are other examples. And most importantly, if we think we don't play that way regularly, we should. Part of the genius of Ferguson's Man Utd teams was that he could go out and play some incredible football. Yet he could also go out and spoil the likes of Arsenal and if he came across a team like Blackburn or Bolton that would kick 7 bricks out of them, he could field players that would kick them right back and then beat them through superior talent too.

I have to say, I feel like I watched a different match to some of you. Burnley certainly tried to rough us up (though we deserved to lose that match regardless) but I didn't watch the Chelsea or Arsenal matches thinking these are teams trying to spoil us. Mostly I was watching at disbelief at how poorly we were playing and trying to remember Poch's high pressing, aggressive teams and wondering what the hell happened to that.

Still, I know this view likely won't get much traction on a Spurs board and as you said, we're getting into opinion now, so like assholes etc etc.

I really hate that bias argument, it does my head in. Its like people cant accept others are actually objective.

Not that I think you are accusing me of that here, just one of those "grinds my gears things..."

I am at no point saying we are angels, and I am very sure there are times we have got nasty.

I do contest the idea that we are "a dirty side" though, particularly in the frame it is often presented.

If I had to wager, I would suggest its a perception thing.

We have gone from being a very soft side, to being a combative one. People still probably think of us as soft-spurs and get a bit of a shock when we dont pull out of tackles etc.

I know Alli can be a brick, I know Vertonghen can leave a bit in etc - but these arent a real feature of their games - let alone the teams (rather an occasional thing).

To be cast as dirty and cheating - when we are regularly on the end of much worse stuff - just doesnt seem fair to me.

Quite right!

Every team in the EPL 'in my opinion' have their moments e.g. like the tackle on Harry at the weekend but that 'for me' doesn't define Arsenal in this example as a dirty team. We have no "Dirty Teams" but they all can be spiteful.

I actually think European football is very well policed when it comes to on-field matters like this by enlarge. I'm not saying it's perfect but much improved over the past 20 years.

You’ve gone off the reservation fella. Let them do what they do best; keep pushing us to new heights. In fact, I think you must be trolling.

Absolutely NOT trolling Steff, i think you should know me and my posting better than that!

I was going to leave it, but perhaps it's better i reply now and not when we are in a 'bad moment' as Poch might say which REALLY would make me look like a knee-jerker (even more than you might atm lol).
I recognise my view on this may be contraversial but here goes:

- Poch has worked very hard to get the club to work and move as a TEAM; when one single player at this juncture of the season talks about us "needing to get over the line" that in itself on the surface is fine, but can also by implication be saying "i care, perhaps others don't"...not sure if this is good for morale as i don't believe at this time we are not getting over the line because "some care more than others"; Last to seasons i could accept that maybe 'not getting over the line' was a mental issue given the quality at our disposal, but not now. Not sure it's great/necessary for team morale at the moment

- I would normally be very happy for Poch to call out our mentality as he is more 'neutral' on it compared to one player doing it amongst the group; however, just coming after a few weeks of saying that half of the honours that are potentially available to us are not important and 'just inflate our ego' does not sit well with me: you can prioritise for sure but you also cannot turn 'mentality'/'ambition' etc on and off like a light switch like that. Again, it comes off a little bit trying to distance onself from the failures to 'get over the line'. If he hadn't poo-pooed the cups, then i'd be bang on with him. Put it this way, SAF, Pep or any of the most driven managers we've seen over our times watching football would prioritise as they see fit but would NEVER openly downgrade honours like that as they know that going for all/any of these takes full-on mental ambition AT ALL TIMES: holding ones nerve in a cup final/semi-final is the same as holding your nerve in a title race etc.

As i say, i think some of the comments would have been better coming at any time in the last two seasons when i REALLY think there were mentality questions and not neccerily now (at least not until very near the end of the season) as i honestly think this squad is sqeezing every last fibre from itself. I'm always happy for oyur squad/club to be challenged to push on (like Poch did to the board last year a few times) but i also fear there is a bit of 'not my fault guv' going which could threaten the great but delicate team ethic we have taken effort and time to build up; it is our USP over other clubs after all.

Anyway, happy to revisit this at the end of the season and i'd be more than happy as @DevonSpur suggests that they are in a position to tell ME to STFU lol

Regardless, back to praising Kane the 'mediocre 5 season wonder' :p

Again, this is his very point though. You claim this, yet you go on any other teams' forums they will say they are on the end of worse stuff - whether it be other players cheating/diving, refereeing decisions, how lucky a team are etc etc Its the same for every team and you cant confidently say we get it much worse in any aspect unless you watch every other team in the league with the same amount of focus as you do Spurs. No fan does that which is why they always end up claiming their team is worse off.....

So I should dismiss any opinion you ever have because you arent fully clued up? Come on.

I watch Spurs more than enough to know we arent a dirty team.

I also watch Spurs more than enough to know that many of the teams we play are far dirtier than us.

Its not rocket science, and its not bias either.

Aside from which Ive watched plenty of games outside of Spurs to see teams getting shat on, being dirty, being unlucky etc.

I am at no point saying we are a special case. What I am saying is those "other fans" who are convinced we are a really dirty team are wrong.

Nope, Im just talking about your bias argument that you first responded to - Every teams fans are biased in terms of thinking they get the raw deal of things due to seeing more of their own teams situations than others, even if avid followers of football in general. Us being dirty? There are plenty of bad challenges we have got away with this season, that of course are never bought up beyond the match, yet for every Xhaka type challenge that isnt punished it shall be mentioned for weeks on end like the world is against us. I'd say we were pretty naughty and certainly no more angelic than any of the other top teams - It's the poorer teams that you find to be the most dirty.....
