Christian Eriksen

Does Eriksen make the team play well, or does he only play well when the team are playing well overall? I honestly don't know.

He's out of form at the moment, but isn't the only one.

Both, for me.

He has the ability to raise the whole team with his performance, and he has done it.

He also has the ability to drift along and not really drive things forward.

We have seen far to much of the latter from him this season.

Marvellous player, but one Im beginning to consider as more a hinderance than help - he needs to raise his game.

Looking at him right now, were Alli fit I would drop Eriksen for him in a straight swap and think the team would be much better off as a result.

We won't win a thing with him playing like he did today. Poor showing, esp for the second goal. Wafted his leg at the guy with the ball, instead of making a proper manly tackle.

I've been bemoaning this about Eriksen for years now. The guy just doesn't tackle with any fudging effort or strength. I've been berated by some on here who argue that tackling "isn't his game". Bullsh*t. It's a basic necessity of the game to be able to win the ball back effectively.
A tackle is a simple thing. I'd rather he gave away a few silly fouls along the way if it meant he looked like he was making an effort. It also shows the passion, drive and determination that is sometimes needed to lift oneself in a game they're allowing to otherwise pass them by.

Agree with the tackling thing, he does run a lot - more than almost anyone in our team but he needs to put a foot in now and again. I dont want to get into a real downer about Eriksen because he's had some real magic moments for us. But I will say I never thought he was world class the way some do on here as he doesnt dominate games consistently in the way the top players do. Also think it shows there is life after Eriksen for us, as he hasn't had a particularly great season (by his standards anyway) yet we are still 3rd in the league and in the CL knockouts....

Eriksen seems to be having his usual mid-season slump. It happens every. single. year. Just has he's lauding up the plaudits and praise (often, rightly so), he then goes missing for several games and seems to become a real passenger. And it often seems to fall right at a time when we need him most to create something.

Time to step back up Eriksen. And with immediate effect, no more lifelines given the weekend.

I'll cut him slack when he's playing well, his talents in one area make up for his deficiencies in others. But the days those talents aren't there he needs to help in other ways, or at least try. And he isn't trying, not at all.
And if he thinks he's playing well enough to not have to even make a pretence of defending then ghod help us.

Erisken is a conduit for many good things to happen but he’s not one to grab the game by the scruff of the neck. You can see the players themselves turn to him in tight games but not ever pass or shot can be an assist or goal and this is where he needs other players to take men away from him or create space.

I know the contract thing is hovering but I think he plays so much better with Alli and Kane. They are on the same wave length and he Alli dovetail naturally when we play 3421 and both can draw players towards them and release the ball. Son could barely hold onto the call last night, Not helped by the fact he was getting fouled but also because he really only has one setting which is to try and beat his man and get a shot off - he seems to have 2 or 3 on him most of the time last night which you’d hope would mean someone else would have had space to exploit. Unfortunately it that was Lamela, our full backs or even our centre mods they don’t really have the combination of technical ability or direct running to exploit it which I think should be a consideration when we consider the summer upgrades we need for those positions.

What had happened to Moura btw, he’s barely getting a sniff even as a plan B and it feels like we have no game changers to come off the bench again.

Despite these limitations there wasn’t much in the game last night, it doesn’t feel like we’ve had our first x1 all season and to be third despite that should be lauded. There’s only so many players we can carry per game and I think there were 4 or 5 yesterday who wouldn’t start if everyone was fit and that is where we need to upgrade.

After being burned with coutinho can't see either Madrid or barca ponying up the kind of cash levy would want for him.
Playing himself out of a move, if bale is getting pelters ar Madrid for scoring worldies in CL final then Eriksen won't last 10 mins in Madrid.

Even if he does not go to Madrid or Barca there are a host of clubs that would treble his wages, and if we do not sell him he can go on a free the following year, either the ball in his court

I hope if he does go to Barca or Real then we get some cash and Coutinho or Isco. That would definitely soften the blow for me. He's definitely been flat for a little while now. Would like to see him in a 2, with Dier next to him and Dele just in front. He doesn't have electric pace and needs intelegent runs in front of him.

If they are watching him ATM, don't hold your breath. I think he currently looks like a doppelgänger made by Peugeot.

He is not playing well at the moment that is for sure but it happens, sadly when he does not perform we do not look as good a side and one of the main reasons we are struggling to impose our selves on games like we can.

Tried to keep an eye on him today and it's remarkable how he always keeps enough distance to opponents that he never has to get involved. Just a bit of half hearted pressing until someone else deals with it.
