Kieran Trippier

I was literally taught that when I was 5.

And as I played full back in the school team until 10 yo, never once passed back between the sticks.

So. Why could I as a non talented 5 year old master this act, when a fully grown professional... ah, never mind!

Play KWP!!!

Ah be fair. Watch us in every game, we put a dozen pass backs between the posts. His mistake was putting his down and passing when his goalkeeper who shouted for the ball and has a reputation for being a sweeper keeper was charging out.

Which is why you don’t put it between the posts! Basics.

Remember Neville on Robbo for England too!! Totally preventable.

Trippier has guaranteed a place in those most embarrassing own goal compilation videos. What a STUPID thing to do. What a pathetic goal to give up.

You forgot to mention that said goalkeeper wears a bright orange shirt and shorts.

He was not that great , Needs Sissoko to hold his hand all the time creating space elsewhere. What winds me up with him when he does get beaten he does not try to recover he just ambles back.

Needs to go not good enough . Poch’s system looks good with full backs with pace !

not a rule to not back pass between the sticks, depends entirely on the situation. given the circumstances today I think it was a poor decision. not the brightest we have.

Not a rule no, but certainly sensible best practice!
The way I look at it is this; a striker down the other end would clearly attempt to place his shot between the posts, as opposed to wide of them. Why? Because it’s obviously going to greatly increase the chances of a goal being scored (from ‘zero’ chance).

So based upon the agreement that placing the ball between the sticks exponentially increases the chances of a goal being scored - why would a defender wish to pass back there when he has the choice to place his pass somewhere where we have proven their is zero chance of scoring a goal...

I will not have a go at him on the basis of yesterday's performance, I just do not think over the season so far that he his been much better than ordinary at best. People on here go on and on about his famed crossing but how often does he really put in good crosses? The more I see him play the more I do not believe he is a better option than KWP.

I also fear that while we are rotating Aurier and Trippier one of our rivals will steal a march on us and sign Aaron Wan-Bissaka who looks a talented young paler with a very high ceiling.
