Victimpool FC - Klopp leaving, grown men crying

As much as it rankers us all they are better than us. Not sure I go "great" that's a little OTT.
A draw at OT against Ole's MU is not too shabby. Both parties will OK with that.
Not to jump in on this debate, but the trouble is many posters say Liverpool are better than us every year at this time, yet pretty much every year we finish above them. So I think the thing that rankers, with me at least, is this notion on here that no matter where Liverpool and Spurs finish, they are still better than us!

Well, I'm just talking about now.
Do you really think we will finish above them this season?

I think you got your Burnley back now. They were excellent at what they do.

I have no problem in admitting a team is better than us.

Or that a player in a team I cant stand is actually rather good.

I find it quite patronising this view that gets taken, like people cant accept such things. Or that if they say a team isnt all that good, its not because that team isnt all that good but because of tribal nonsense.

The difference between us and liverpool this season is their draws vs our loses. Its actually not that great a difference. Every time Ive seen them play I have been left distinctly unimpressed, to the degree where I actually - heartily - disagree that they are better than us. They arent. They are an expensive Leicester.

City? Oh absolutely. Playing some incredible stuff, they really are better than us.

Liverpool? No, just - no.

Liverpool does take full advantage of the poor defending in our league as do City.
enough about them.......

I have to say I think we have stretched "winning ugly" to the max of late.
Dortmund was magnificent.
Saturday was grim.
Definitely squeaky bum time for the next few games.

Their most impressive performance this season, that I've seen, was when they beat us at Wembley. They absolutely bossed us that day and we were lucky to get out at 2-1 (although Son should have had a pen).

They've bought pretty well and tightened up at the back but they aren't looking particularly good at the moment. Long may it continue.

I thought we were better than Liverpool last season, but at the start of this season after all the money they spent, I thought they would be challenging for the title, but that City would ultimately win it. I thought we’d make 4th with maybe a cup run.

As it’s turning out I think I overestimated Liverpool and probably underestimated ourselves. So in reply to your question, I won’t be betting on us finishing above Liverpool, but it wouldn’t surprise me now either.

I always underestimate us!
I had us down for 5th or 6th at the beginning of the season. Been very pleased thus far.

I’m now slipping into a more pessimistic mood!

Liverpool blown it for me

Agreed. When City lost at Saudi Sportswashing Machine, Liverpool could have opened up an 8 point lead iirc. Instead, they have gone ropey in attack and the lead is just one point. I think City will win it from here no problem to be honest.

I think this week will be key. If Liverpool don't match City's points haul, then i think it's over for them as they'd likely be chasing and that can be mentally crushing given the chances they've blown to store up a VERY healthy lead. Tbf to Pep he has chased better than i thought he would...

If Liverpool get an early goal then they are capable of destroying teams as they are set up to play fast counter attacking football. This has also helped them in cup games where a result has to happen. The new keeper and Van Dijk took away their fragility at the back but in recent games it looks like the pressure of challenging for the title and the fact that they don't seem to be set up to perform over the course of the season is having an effect. I'm not saying they still won't finish second but they remind me of a boxer who comes out swinging and knocks out a lot of lower level opponents by overwhelming them, until they step up a division and then they run out of ideas as they don't have any actual craft which is then augmented by burning themselves out. Their strength compared to the likes of Goons Chelsea and United is that they do have a defined way of playing and each season they just need to sign players to supplement it but it's arguable they do need a plan b / Coutinho type player to take the final step.

This. A few weeks of dodgy results for whoever will flip the whole thing on its head again. The injuries from the weekend might have a massive part to play. The loss of Fermino and Fernadinho could be massive, or not.

See, I think this.
6 points in the next two games, points dropped by those two in the next two and suddenly it all looks different again.
Way too much to go for people to say who is in and out of the race.
And the one player City have not got a replacement for is Fernandinho. It will be a case of whether Guardiola works around it or tries to make someone work in that position.
Liverpool's season still rests on VVD from, if he stays fit they won't fall away. If he gets injured, couple that with Firminho and we'll find out what they're really about.

Absolutely. I still think we're in with a small chance if the stars align.

This … exactly where is the fudging evidence that Pool are a better side (not on form, but in results) than Spurs?

In the last 10 fudging years .. one finish above us?
In the last 12 fudging years .. exact same number of trophies

It's fudging maddening that it's accepted, pushed by media and lapped up by fans ...

Watch and see, they could bottle the rest of this season, we could finish 2nd and I will bet at the start of next season pudits/media/idiots everywhere will have "Spurs struggling to stay in top 4" and Pool as title favorites ...
