Davinson Sanchez

We look puddled today!
Eriksen looked lightweight physically today!

Even Sissoko who has been a destroyer this season was bailing out of 50-50s, they got into our heads (helped by some shiiiite refereeing) and it was widespread panic from there.

When your 'strong man' is bailing out, the rest of the squad have no hope.

I thought they all looked RUSTY. Kane didn't so much which was very unexpected.

The refereeing was very strange, again. Every 50/50 went against us and very 'quickly' there was none of the expected and normal thinking time/hesitation from Dean.
It seems a growing trend with refereeing, quick to the decision and then the obligatory yellow card!
I wonder if its a reaction to VAR descending on them next season?

Dean was obviously playing with us, he strode over to bardsley as if to send him off, which he should have, then brandished a yellow as if to say ha fooled you.
When you look at the amount of fouls Barnes got away with to book Llorente for his first nothing challenge was a disgrace.
Unfortunately the poor decisions for the goals has the focus instead of just a rank poor ref job altogether.

100% agreed. As for the red, he got suckered into they 99 red card hype IMO. He as become the new tacotenberg.

Surprised no-one has commented on Davinson's performance yesterday. There is so much to like about the kid - and he is still a kid. But I worry how he seems unable to learn and repeats the same mistake over and over again.

The lack of concentration leading to the missed header... seems unable to get it out of his system

But above all, the rush to the head leading to the penalty. You simply do not lay hands on an opponent in the penalty area. Yet he does it over and over again. Quite a few times he's been lucky but you can't expect luck to bail you out every time.

Young defenders can be a liability until they pick up experience, I accept that. However repeating the same mistakes is very worrying.

Agree with most of that but the penalty call was a joke
What defender wouldnt at least make some contact, it’s a contact sport

The error for their goal though was poor. He didn’t make a decision and got caught in 2 minds IMo. Always take the ball first and foremost

I thought he was pretty much faultless apart from one mistimed header 50 metres from goal.

The penalty is a 9/10 ‘no pen’ so I’m not holding him responsible.

That's not the point... at least this season! Maybe VAR would have reversed it (not sure actually) but it is the essence of folly to put any hand on a striker's back in the penalty area. It puts the ref in a tough position and having given a penalty wrongly because Kane was offside, it was a get out of jail for him to square things. And this rush of blood happens over and over again...

Kane was onside
The rule is that if you foul a player before they can play the ball it’s treated as a foul

And he touched his back as he was running... the only way you don’t do that is by not swinging your arms which is natural when running full pelt

I thought Wanyama cost us just as much as Davo. He was too high up trying to win that ball, but Victor with his experience needed to have dropped deeper to cover having seen the potential danger. He hesitates when the ball gets through and it cost us...

A much better game yesterday but his brain fart on 11 minutes could have been disastrous were it not for Vertonghen. The Belgian's ability to block certain goals is becoming legendary

Can understand people questionning Sanchez performances, but he's a young player learning to play at the top level so will inevitably have ups and downs in form. View it as a long-term investment in him
Especially when it seems he’s being blamed for referreing mistakes not his own.

Thought he played well yesterday, his pace gives us that bit of extra insurance at the back.

Aside fromt he fact that, yes, he has made mistakes - but VERY few are actually costly.

And otherwise he is playing well.

Aside from a few early slight mishaps, i thought Harley was immense yesterday. Hopefully he can keep it us vs Soton and then get a well-earned rest
