Christian Eriksen

Think he’s keeping his options open, but there’s actually not many clubs “better” than us nowadays, so unless Barca, Real, Bayern, City, Juve, PSG want him then he stays and the last 2 on that list would purely be for the CL, the domestic stuffs rubbish.

Nothing in these quotes to worry about, if anything quite the opposite.

'According to his representative, the midfielder wants leave discussions over his future to the summer while he works hard on maintaining his form.

"Christian only wants to focus himself on football," Schoots told ESPN .

"Besides his technical, tactical and athletic skills, also this attitude has contributed over the years to his impressive transformation from world class talent to world class player.

"At this moment I would prefer not to join the speculations about contracts and transfers." '

So Eriksen understands the importance of not allowing contract discussions to get in the way of giving his very best for the team.

A fully-focused Eriksen can still help us achieve big things this season. Contract discussions and/or transfer speculation could - in fact probably would - affect his performance on the pitch negatively. Given his importance to the team that's the last thing we need.

Plenty of time to sort out his contract in the summer. If he wants to go and the right offer comes along, he will go anyway, so no earthly point in worrying about it right now.
I never understood this "contract discussions would affect a player's performance." I played competitive water polo and handball and when I got in that pool or on that court everything got tuned out: breaking up with my girlfriend, my best friend's loss, whether there was a crowd of 3000 people or just 3. And I wasn't even an elite athlete like these guys are.

No evidence Campbell was doing it at the time either....

I know from a member of the FA board (and it was common knowledge around the inner football world) that Campbell had agreed to go to Arsenal by the January/February of that year but then constantly denied his future was decided and he was waiting on a contract offer so yeah there would have been evidence at the time.

Funny how “common knowledge” alluded everybody at Spurs!

Cool. Eriksens definitely staying then.

Although it didn't, did it? There were quotes at the time saying we had made reasonable offers but Campbell wasn't interested and then Campbell denied we had even made offers. Also seem to remember allusions in interviews by Spurs to the fact that his decision had been made. Campbell was still massively popular with Spurs fans at the time and playing for us, so to come out against him publicly would have back-fired for the second half of the season.

Totally agree. Apart from the bits which are the same of course.

The bits about having a contract with us, that contract running down and him not going to the media to bitch and moan and lie about it all?? Those bits? Or just 2 out of 3 that apply to all our squad?

I think you’re dead right. Eriksens nice agent is simply putting Tottenhams remaining games top of his list of priorities and ahead of his own financial gain. What a lovely lovely guy and we’re dead right to believe everything agents say in the press about contract negotiations. As this is never ever a ruse. No way, Jose.

Anyway, I’m slightly off topic news did you hear they were removing the word gullible from the dictionary......

I clearly recall Sugar saying at the time (after dragging his heels until the last moment it has to be said) that he eventually made a very generous offer but Campbell was just not interested, he'd already made up his mind to go.

As annoying as it was Campbell’s choice was at least logical, there is no logic in Eriksen leaving now, just as we are on the cusp of dominating football for decades, we’ll win more European Cups over the next 10 years than Spain and Manchester combined.

You're worrying too much.
It is Barca or nowhere as far as I have heard. What possible good would it do him to sign a contract now having not signed one last summer? None. Depending on what we do/don't achieve, he could end up getting even more than he is currently being offered.
My gut feeling is he will sign a new bumper deal in the summer once Barca don't come running in for him. Either that or we will not let him go this summer and force a drag down. Poch might well have surmised that a replacement cannot be found for the value we'd lose on a fee in keeping him. We shall see. But I do think you're over-worrying mate. And the Campbell situation is very different IMO. Again, I remember the whole thing and had heard the whisper he was fudging us off in that new year; what I don't think anyone knew was that he was going there, not until the very end.

Eriksen is, again, a different kettle...quite a sensitive and thoughtful bloke. Confidence and the like is easily disrupted. He has certainly developed a tougher streak in that regard, and it is again hard to remember that he is still a relatively young man.

I’m not worried at all. Many more things to be worried about than a report on football London.
