The Cricket Thread

This summer's ashes series will be the lowest in terms of quality for a long time as both teams are actually pretty poor

Aussies have some decent bowlers, problem England have is everyone is a middle order stroke player who like to play shots. It won't always work out when the team is made up in that style.

The Windies have made us look like what we are, poor!

England are seeing the results of the boys club its created. Denlys being given his debut 10 years too late when its all gone wrong, Burns is probably 5 years late for his debut. The West Indies probably due to not having much choice perseverved with their youngsters and are seeing the fruit from that, we have played the old guard whilst giving youth fleeting chances to prove themselves.

People say the talent is not out there but I argue against that, Vaughan added around 10 to his average moving up in class from 30 odd to 40 so you don't have to be looking for people averaging 45-50 to give them a go, especially when you take into account the conditions they have to bat in. And even when you have the talent we ignore it.

We always start off tours slow, I bet if this was a five match we might of come back to win the series. I think it’s just the top three that needs sorting out, their constant failures puts too much pressure on the middle order. Our middle section of Root, Bairstow, Butler,Stokes and Moeen is potentially as strong as anyone’s....

T20 is killing proper cricket in this country, in the past county sides would import world class players which gave county players the opportunity to play against the best, now top players follow the money and only play limited first class cricket. Young players see the way to earn big money is by smashing the ball around in a short space of time on batting pitches and don't develop the skills to play long innings on pitches that change over the period of a game. There seems to me a lack of mental toughness in the players and like football the people who run the game can only see the money and care little for the people who love the game and pay their own money to watch the game.

I think its been good but there is a balance which has now gone too far.

With the T20 which was a success for counties its not been enough, they are going to break up the game even further with the 100 game....unreal to be honest
