Oliver Skipp

It will be interesting to see how many different positions he get played in.

If my memory serves, in his first start he played in a central role, yesterday he seemed to be more on the left, almost mirroring Sissoko's position on the right (didn't he fill in as LB when Rose was getting treatment?) with more license to attack doe that side, which explains why he was so far up field to intercept the clearance for Eriksens goal.

That’s how I saw it

We had winks as the Jorginho role and sissoko right, Skipp left. I thought Skipp was decent personally and held his own, but that’s not a view shared by everyone

My thoughts as well, he is 18 and has a long way to go before anyone should expect him to stand out. He did not have a great game but neither did he have a poor one.
Agreed. Mostly kept things simple on the ball, but not afraid of possession, tidy and put in a decent shift defensively against a fairly good mid table PL team.

For an 18 year old with almost no first team experience that's good enough in my book.

Skipp's 3rd start in the PL, it wasn't a calamity, as long as keeps doing what he should in training we will see him again.

My thought, this season is all bonus for the kid, next season is when we should start evaluating him a little more seriously.

Was interesting at one point to see Eriksen spending some time giving Winks directions at a break in play, that is what players like Winks & Skipp will benefit greatly from.

Surprised no-one hasn't commented on Skipp after today's game. Was MOTM in my eyes; covered the whole pitch constantly winning back possessing and distributing the ball efficiently and promptly. Seems like a Winks clone, but maybe more aggressive in the tackle.

There's plenty of positive comments on the OMT.

Yes, I think he is pushing hard to get a lot of minutes this year. A very tidy little nugget, at times he looked like Scott Parker's son/grandma

Have never rated him but he was the best player on the park today. It was a performance I didn't think he had in him. It is only pre-season but today was certainly very encouraging. If he turned into a viable option, that would make us pretty decent in a position we've struggled in for a couple of years.

Not sure how you cannot rate a kid you can hardly have seen TBH
He is a kid and hasn’t played probably less than 5 games for the first team in total minutes
Unless you watch the youth team play i am confused by your comment

Seen him play 3-4 games and always looked ineffectual to me. Didn't catch my eye in any way. But it's only a few games and he's young so it's not like I'm writing him off. Just don't rate him based on the little bit I've seen.

Yesterday was more the sort of performance that would turn my opinion.

If you can come in and play centre midfield in the Premier League at only 18 years old and not look awful then you probably have something about you.

The only way that you can really judge 99.9% of young players fairly is when they are playing against other players of a similar age. When we played Southampton in the under 19 game at the new stadium it was abundantly clear that Skipp was on a much higher level. The game at his age group level was just far too easy for him. Of course there is then a jump to under 23 football and then a huge jump to PL football. My expectation for any centre midfielder would be that each year from about 16 to 22 have the largest jumps in improvement year on year. If Skipp carries on that same level of improvement that he has shown over the last two years for the next 3 or 4 then he will be very good indeed. He is at least as far forward now as Declan Rice was at that same stage of his career.

Rice was playing CB until last season don’t forget
And skipp is going under a lot of people’s radars outside of spurs
But he does need to progress and yesterday showed some of that
