I trust Poch. Hand on heart, I do - I also remember the days when I was younger, when I was resigned to never seeing a Spurs team that fought, that struggled, that had a spine and a heart.

Then BMJ came in, and that was the very first time I saw a Spurs side that actually seemed to care - that fought as one, that bled as one, and that made us roar into the stars above.

And Poch has built that again - again, and better. So I trust Poch, and I love the man more than I've let on to most of you.

I want him to stay for twenty years. I want him to win the things we could scarce dream of winning, back in the days when we were crap and all the world laughed at us for what we were. I want him to bellow that laugh of his, on a sunny spring day as the confetti flies, the air shimmers and a warm sun shines down on 60,000 fans united in bliss....having reached the promised land at long last. The mountaintop...here for all to see.

But it's just hard to see him and the team fall at the last hurdle, again and again and again. And always left thinking that just one good player might have changed things - just one moment of daring, of risk, of backing.

I know Poch has accepted our limitations, and that he wants the right player but wants to save what we have for one. But why, oh why, have ENIC coldly imposed those limitations on the very best manager we've had in fifty long years?

Why does Poch *need* to save for whom he wants? Why can't we go out and say 'for once, you don't have to buy a damn chair - here's your sofa'?

That’s a very, very good post and I think many on the other side of the argument, me included, would find it hard to argue against the points you’ve made here.

Good post Dubai.

We're never far apart on what we want for this club and are completely aligned on our thoughts regarding our manager.

It really does boil down to patience. I'm just more patient than you. Whether that's just when it comes to Tottenham or generally in life, I don't know? I don't mind a journey.

It really does come across that you 'blame' levy/Lewis for our situation or putting the brakes on what YOU want.

With respect, you know naff all about our finances (I do), I can assure you that the net spend/prudent approach is very much the only way forward at this moment in time, further complicated by the stadium delay.

I do agree that (not that there are any guarantees) the right player (or two) c.ould of been a difference maker but even then we may have had to land on our feet with a Payet/Suarez type player to really give us something else. That said, that reasoning is all emotionally driven....the level the team has reached and the ridiculous escalation of the transfer market (beyond what Levy could factor in 5 years ago) has made it far far too risky to take a (even a calculated) risk on 50-80m players when backdropped by the ongoing infrastructure projects.

Levy has given carte blanche to Poch to do as he pleases with the squad and sell whomever he wants and have all those proceeds to re-invest. This is a generous concession in the modern game (but he probably trusts Poch, why wouldn't he)

The two financial elements are pretty much ring fenced (they have to be). When the asset is realised (completed) we can re-structure the debt with a long horizon that will bring all the finances of the club back together again. Hopefully much to the advantage of Poch and the playing side.

Just wait for that moment, we can then see if any of your ''penny pinching' predictions come to pass, but at the moment we are tied up to some degree.
 
My feeling is that we are where we are because we do what we do, changing the system now would be crazy.

I’m relaxed about it as it seems inevitable to me that our model is the only way forward and every club will have to do it the same way, we’re twenty years ahead of everybody else, it’s only a matter of time before we absolutely ruin football with a period of dominance unlike any seen before.
 
I am glad we are riding through this year just as we are. No knee jerk reactions. Just a cool ftw attitude

Some people watch the game from a sofa, that means they dont see the runs off the ball, but they see better analysis, each to their own, but the way you consume the game and the club will of course influence your viewpoint

I think most reasonable supporters know and respect that is the position we are in at the moment, they are still a few around though and will always slag of ENIC and Levy for not splashing the cash. I feel sad really that they feel that way because they are not REALLY enjoying this great ride the club have/are on at this time.

The simple answer? In order to get not just one sofa but several you want, you need a bigger house -a mansion, a castle, a palace even- and that is what we are finishing up with. Plus, the sofas he wants are 80,90, 100 million each.

It isn't "cold imposition" it is total and utter logic based on the overall plan. He is delighted with the facilities both developed already and completing as were speak. THOSE are VITAl elements in his plan. One thing to know about Poch (if you didn't already)...he marches to the beat of his own drum. That drum is rare. And it does not always include the same sort of sofa that we all think it might. In fact, truth be told, there are several big-brand sofas that he wouldn't wish to deal with, as they'd not only impact his pocket and the immediate living area, but filter off odd vibes throughout the entire house!...or something like that.

p.s. when he spoke of "being brave" I tried to give my view of that comment and it was largely ignored. I'll say it again, he essentially said stop buying chairs for sofas, I've had chairs and they don't work, I'd rather wait with the chairs I have until I can get the sofa I want. Said-sofa is not always a case of money, sometimes it is a case of dimensions and fit!!!!!

This is only going to change, there will be more money for wages.

We are Harry Kane, born in August so have to overachieve to compete against older (wealthier / doped) competitors.When the age gap no longer mattered it made Kane the better player as he’d had to scrap and work harder to keep up. When the new stadium comes and we can strengthen the depth of our squad to buy players ready made for the first eleven, coupled with the experience the core of the team have gained in not quite winning a cup I think we will slingshot last our rivals.

I have some very good friends who I attend matches with who are very down over the last two windows - I’m not saying I couldn’t give a list of 5 or 6 players I think we can upgrade on but we are sitting 2 points off City without having our best x1 available all season. The austerity due to the stadium is a long term plan to enable us to compete without a Poch performing miracles but in the case of my friends at least they seem to be worried about something that hasn’t happened yet, i.e our performances regress over the season. We have a difficult month to get through and post that there is no reason for us to finish stronger than we have already started. I’m still not sure if Poch is being stubborn (which is his right) about who he wants to sign as any signing would have been good PR.
IF the austerity doesn’t end when the stadium is delivered, then I think we all as fans can question ENIC’s plans for us and Poch’s continued motivation to stay, but as it stands I see the two most important people at the club aligned in their view for the future in a sport where most other clubs are taking anincreasingly short term view.
