Youri Tielemans

Just watched the YouTube highlights ;)
Not for me.. looks like a retired pro who you'd say 'He's still got it'' when spraying passes about without breaking a sweat. Seems to have a nice touch and decent shot but slow as f**k, and that's in the French league!!

Yes, but if you want someone who has delivered in the English, Spanish, Italian or German leagues you'd be looking at >£50m, which is out of our reach at the moment. Realistically, we're more likely to shop in the French, Dutch, Belgian leagues or lower leagues in England. Your comment about 'slow as ****' could easily apply to Eriksen as well.

I'm not necessarily saying that he is the answer, but at 21 years old, provne in a second tier league, international already - seems to fit the bill for whta we look for, and might not be someone who teams with deeper pockets are after.

It does feel sometimes like we're searching for the ideal player at the ideal price

Not committing to anything until we know what Rabiot wants?

We dont know anything for sure, of course, but that would be my take.

I think its pretty fair to assume we are very interested in Rabiot and he would be our first choice of the two.

Also no real harm in letting Leicester negotiate, at least then we know what the deal is and can step in.

I thought the normal scenario was that Manager and the Directors have some discussions and the Manager would put forward some suggestions ahead of a transfer window, otherwise they are wasting everyone's time by discussing possible transfers that Poch doesn't even want.
Unless he is just one of many players the club get offered and they thought 'Yeah, he looks alright and its a cheap deal, what about him Poch?' and he just said no thanks and it's just been blown up a bit by the Twitter poster above.

with Directors of football I tend to read it the other way - DoF & manager talk about type of players, DoF goes away and brings back a list of achievable / desirable players and the manager gives feedback / prioritises. In this instance a player popped up so I imagine we started the ball rolling with the players agent while discussing with Poch or more likely this is just paper talk and we shouldn't believe it.

I'd imagine both scenarios occur, plus a third where our scouting team come across potential players that they then alert the club to.
In this case it could just be as per your suggestion that having shown an interest previously, his agent or his club have let us know he might be moving, we've responded that we might be interested, but only on a loan-to-buy basis, but Poch has put the kybosh on it in any case.

This would be my expectation.

Otherwise what is the DoF there for if the manager is also scouting players and trying to instigate transfers?
