I liked Erik Lamela before it was cool

Thing is, if we get rid of him, and Trippier, and Hugo, and Davies, and Sissoko who are we going to blame?
It's funny after a baf result waiting to see which of those lot are going to cop it, seldom takes long. Takes a longtime, if ever, for any of them get credit after good result though.

While I agree with you, I also agree with @ricky2tricky4city

Lamela is a bit of an odd one, neither fish nor foul, but I think all would agree there is great unrealised potential in him.

That said, as you say, theres always someone who cops it after a loss (though I dont think thats what ricky is doing here).

We could not talk about the players, good or bad, and just shut the forum down.

It's just a bit of chat really.

I didn't write my post above in light of last night's game, it was kind of in reply to @Legohamster s post. C.ould of written the same anytime in the last 12 months. Just my observations......hope there worthwhile;)

:)
Jeez just an opinion.

Don't forget he ended last season very well as well.

Sorry to pick you up on that:)

Try to put last night behind you?
Sorry if my inner snark popped out and thanks for your calm reply. I’m not hugely upset with last night as the absentees were crucial. If a team knows you don’t have the threats we were missing they have less to worry about. And Sarri stopped playing his preferred not effective formation and freed up hazard to cause all kinds of mischief. I see that game as a lost opportunity to get to play at Wembley but also as a chance for Poch to work out how to get the most out of our bare bones.
o_O

Sorry I didn't mean to be having a poke at you, I'm not, honest.

I think it would be best for lamela to move on tbh, not because of he isn't good enough, but because I don't see where he fits in now.
Him and Eriksen just don't play well together and we're not going to drop Eriksen.

The irony is he has that one thing that we all keep saying we miss, winning weather......

I think of him ultimately as a squad player.

Whether or not he would be happy with that is another story!

I do agree he and Eriksen dont really seem that complimentary. Though I also think Lamela could do very well in Eriksens position, perhaps thats why?

I can forsee a situation where Lamela never really steps on with us, and so transfers out.

I can also forsee a situation where we sell Eriksen, and Lamela ends up a revelation playing centrally.

Honestly coudnt say how I think he'll pan out.

Ultimately though, if he is happy to stay Im happy to keep him - even though its likely not as a first choice player

Yes, they don't seem to start off in the same areas but drift into them and end up on each others toes.
There's none of our top 15 players that I would be happy getting rid off, and it's not often we've been able to say that, and I'd include lamela in the 15.
Most of the time when our top players have left its wrankled, but if he did it properly I'd wish him all the best because I just can't see him making it here. He seems live it here and as you say if hes happy with his lot great.

I dont think it was even that damning!

This guy is such a frustration, when he comes on as a sub you wonder why he doesnt start and when he does he is woeful.

He is one of the areas I think we can upgrade, I love his brickhousary and passion....

Starting to feel the same way about him to be honest, imo he has not shown a lot this season at all and nothing like he was before his last spell out with injury. maybe he will return to form soon but if not maybe we should be thinking about upgrading, sad to say that really because he was one of my favourite players but he seems a shadow of himself at the moment.

I love Lamela but I agree he seems to be most effective as a sub. In his defence it does appear hard for him to put a consistent run of games together with all his injuries. Perhaps that is all he needs to recapture a bit of form.

I think that he was one of our best players for the first few months of the season but he has gone off the boil a little since. I find it hard to read too much into yesterday's game because Llorente gives so little for the other forwards to play off and there were so many players coming back from injury.

Well as we know Stop! Hammer time but i do not feel he has been that good this season ( maybe in flashes). He was one of my favourite players but as i said before he does not seem as " on it" as he used to be. His work rate is up there with SP but ( imo) even that is not the same. However i hope he proves me wrong and goes on to have a storming finish to the season.

It's worth going back in this thread and reading what we were saying at the time. There is lots of praise for his performances in early November and plenty who thought that he was amongst our best performers this season at that point. Around p.494 is a good place to read.

He seems to have lost some of that confidence and swagger after his injury. I also don't think it suits him that well to be playing as far up the pitch as he has since returning from injury. Hopefully his form and confidence will return quickly, we need it.

Does he not feel he has to push so hard once he is back in the team/frame after injury.

I just think he has been here for 6 years and he hasnt really stepped up to a go to guy, not all his fault with injuries mind.

On or off the bench?

I don't think anyone can criticise Lamela for effort.

He's lost two seasons to injury, that is going to impact on any player. All that said, I think that he offers at least as much as Moura and their form has mirrored each other so far this season.

Is there a measurable difference between a player who only plays well from the bench and a player that only starts in a significantly poorer team because he's the one who replaces our star players?

Any idea how well he knew Sala, the missing Argentinian lad? Lamela is 2 years younger so perhaps their paths haven't crossed that much but that might be in his head at the moment.
