Christian Eriksen

I call bullschitt on that "reported" £225M fee.

What? AS called up Spurs, got Levy on the line and he read them the number?

No wonder players give bland replies to questions about rumours. Hardly worth drawing breath to answer.

The only way theres more to it, is if it comes from Madrid. And they wouldnt be the first club to use a paper as a mouthpiece, leaking things to suit.

Madrid baulk at the price, leak it, and hope Eriksen agitates for a move to help smooth things out.

Though, lets be honest, its most likely made up BS

I was living in Spain when Real Madrid bought Bale and AS was basically their mouthpiece / tapping up outlet. They had welcomed him to the club about a month before he signed :)

So Madrid def have some connections to the paper.

Right but what % of players who are linked to them via AS actually end up signing for them?
Very low I assume

IF we lose Eriksen to Madrid then i hope we would insist that Modric be part of the deal, i appreciate he is getting on a bit now but i am sure he is good enough for another couple of years and hopefully we can find another player to step in then.
And they pay 2/3 of Modric’s wages. We do have a ‘special relationship’ after all

I love Eriksen and really hope he stays but I don't think he is irreplaceable. We won't find such a hardworking playmaker again but Poch will tweak the tactics and we'll be okay. Son, Alli and Kane are brilliant attackers. Liverpool haven't missed Coutinho much and they haven't replaced him.

I actually think they have missed him, true they've adapted their style but they certainly lack creativity from midfield but they have been more solid at the back which makes up for it.

They play worse football, absolutely, but the results suggest they dont really miss him exactly.

Over this season Ive become more convinced Alli is the one we cant replace, more so than Eriksen. That said, that doesnt mean for a second I want Eriksen gone, he's a major part of the team and a magnificent player.

Alli drifts in and out of games and still has quite a few games where he's anonymous and things don't come off for him. Eriksen rarely drops below say a 7 and regularly puts in 8's and 9's.

Eriksen is often totally annonymous.

Alli is increasingly making things happen for us.

Lets be honest though, we are talking about two excellent players - its not as if one isnt any good!

I love Alli, and I know many will label me an ignoramus for saying this, but it seems to me he's having a comparatively ineffective season by his standards?

He seems to generally be dropping deeper with each season (presumably Poch's idea of course!), and I just don't see him adding as much value there as he was doing higher up the pitch 1 or 2 seasons ago. What am I missing?

For those who like stats (I know not everyone does!) - here's Eriksen and Alli's stats per 90 minutes for this season, in PL and CL combined:

Alli dribbles and wins the ball back more, but Eriksen comes out on top on everything else (albeit sometimes only very marginally). Which reflects what I personally see on the pitch.

Before anyone starts, I'm not being negative towards Alli - I just find the analysis and discussion interesting!

For me, Alli is becoming a more rounded player, and is contributing all over the field in key areas.

He'll play against Utd, just keep an eye on him and notice how he is exactly where you want him to be at all times.

Popping up in midfield and linking play and we are away
Running from deep to ghost in and get on the end of something
Pulling defenders all out of position so Son can make a run
Making a contribution 20 yards out to nick or intercept the ball while Rose has gone walk about...

He is just pulling together EVERYTHING at once.

There are players I watch and think "why arent you there?" "what are you doing up there?" WIth Alli, this season, its always "He is right where he needs to be".

I genuinely think he has been magnificent.

He was at the WC and has continued to be so.

Defensive work too has been excellent all season.

The way we currently line up Eriksen spends a bit more time deeper and so gets on the ball more at times. Alli receives the ball further forward, where we want him to try his creative things. When that doesn't work he seems to drift out of the game compared to Eriksen who will string more passes together a bit deeper. All as it should be imo.

The thing is, this season Eriksen is also scoring more goals and getting more assists! He seems to be playing the deeper and more advanced role more effectively than Alli. Unless I'm missing something?

Either way, great to have two great players of course.

I just don't quite see him playing at the same level that you do, especially at the WC. I'll be at Wembley on Sunday, so I'll try and keep a particular eye on him.

All opinions and that.

I feel like he is doing less eye catching stuff - but more key, subtle work.

The WC had a midfield of He, Hendersen (fudging turd), and Linguard (brainless)

And yet, it worked. Mostly because Alli, the only intelligent and capable player in there, was making sure it worked.

If he wasnt there that midfield was failing, IMHO, and so then was the team.

While people were all expecting him to be scoring and disappointed when he wasnt attacking all the time, I was blown away by the maturity and composure he was showing.

He is in a similar situation with us and the Winks/Sissoko midfield which is really compromised. I think he is doing wonders to make sure we arent suffering too much with a disfunctional MF pair.
