Mousa Dembele

Do you not think Winks and (then at the very end) Skipp did an excellent job?

They did a decent job, but we were out of possession for huge periods of the game. Dembele's strength (and weakness) would have worked well for us today, come in, hold the ball and move it into their half.

Our midfield is a big problem right now (outside of the attacking players), we started Winks & Sissoko and the only bench option was Skipp, Chelsea had Kovacic to bring on ..

Winks/Skipp/Sissoko need to be bench/2nd string options (for the first two, at this stage of their career), not starting or relied on players.

Not to hijack the thread but what the hell is going on with Wanyama? Don't seem to hear anything about him. I'm clueless as to why he has been out so long.

Feels like another Sandro situation - in terms of his recovery from a knee injury never being 100%

Very well put. The Dembele offer is a very good one, but we need a replacement in. That said, I can’t see us getting anyone proven in - best hope is someone like that Berge chap (in terms of experience)

I agree. And Winks picking up a fairly early yellow card definitely hindered his tackling and that became a problem.

For me the reported fee is huge for a player with six months left on his contract who has been injured as often as Dembele has. Even at the low end of the speculation it's probably an effective cost of £10-11m to keep him around for half a season (wages and lost transfer fee). That could fund around £100k per week of wages for two years to throw at Alderweireld and Eriksen for example. Dembele would have to do really well to justify keeping him around.

Bit of a headache this for Pochettino. Trust him to make a good decision. Is there a Davids style signing we could make to bolster our midfield options for a while until Skipp develops a bit more?

Proved us both right to an extent tonight

We needed Dembele to come on to firm it up, but he’s injured.

As it stands Dembele would have been massive last night.

But as you say, not available.

My over riding thing isnt so much "We need Dembele" as it is "We need SOMEONE".

If Dembele going facilitates us getting in a quality and reliable player, its ok with me.

Time to move him on for me, he can not be relied on to stay fit and never will be. keeping him here even IF he gets to play a few games is not what i would call good long term planning.

Christ, you forget just how many players Chelsea have stockpiled!

I’d only just remembered Batshyui earlier today as well.

What a career graveyard it is!

I'm American, so everyone I knew, after the Pulisic deal was announced asked me what I thought, do I wish Spurs got him, etc. He is what the US has by way of "star power" these days and I gather he wanted to play in the Prem.

I told them I thought chels was a terrible choice for him, where he likely wouldn't play much and where he'd end up being forgotten. That the current manager didn't even know the deal was being done didn't bode at all well for his chances and when Sarri's replacement comes in he'll likely buy in a new team. I am sure he is being paid more, but from a footballing perspective that this was a bad choice. He will be front and center of any chels tour of the US this summer though.

As for Spurs they weren't ever going to pay that sort of money for someone who wasn't better than who they already have.

Twice as many as anyone else and highest success rate, I’m a massive Dembele fan boy, really gonna miss him!

Edit: actually I missed Hazard down the bottom there!
