Toby Alderweireld

I can see Liverpool coming in for him the minute the £25m clause activates. He'd be an upgrade on Lovren, what they'd offer him compared to us would be no reason for him to think twice on that front, and they probably wouldn't find it difficult to convince him he'd stand a better chance of honours with them either (which I believe is an important consideration for him), especially if they win it this year. Man U might not be able to be so persuasive there.

I'll be honest, I have thought about this exact scenario. All of Arsenal, Chelsea, Man Utd, Liverpool and Emirates Marketing Project could do with a great cb and 25 million would be a steal for someone of his talent this summer. They can also all offer more in wages than us.

VVD and Alderweireld would be a formidable cb pairing.

I wouldn't say he's the most loyal player necessarily but I would hope that he has enough respect for Poch and the club to not go to the two London clubs. Last season may affect that in his mind though, who knows. Liverpool would also sting because they should really be a club we're targeting to finish above etc (and have done consistently recently).

I'd obviously prefer him to go abroad if he is leaving. Would definitely be unpleasant seeing him at another PL club, its been 10 years since I've seen a player I actually cared that much about leaving in the colours of another PL club. I would have preferred Walker to stay but wasn't all that bothered tbh, especially for 50 million.

Also, I don't believe for even a second that we made him available for 25 million last summer. This is Belgium's starting cb, a player most in the league have been hailing as the best cb in the league for the past 3-4 seasons and who I'd say was still in the top 10 cbs in the world now. 25 million is an absolute steal (Bmouth just dropped 19 million on Solanke. Solanke! He has one goal in the PL.

Forgive me if I’m being really thick but can the club still offer him a new contract or do they have to wait until the end of the season? Can’t see why we wouldn’t be doing everything possible to keep him. Poch and Levy have got to be fully aware there’s a high chance he goes to a PL rival if we can’t keep him which will be a double blow. Bayern constantly raid Dortmund’s best players not only to strengthen themselves but to hurt BVB

We definitely can offer him a new deal, and I'm actually more optimistic than most on here that he could stay:
- I think there's a decent chance that Liverpool will want to stick with their VVD-Gomes pairing, so a move there would depend on whether TA wants to be first choice
- Not sure he'd be first choice at Man C either. Regardless of what we think of them, they seem to be happy with Stones, Laporte, Otamendi, Kompany etc
- Would he go to Arse or cheatski?

Man U, PSG, Spanish clubs - most likely destinations in my view. Is he a big enough name for Barca and Real to want him?

I think its 50/50 whether he'll be here next season

We could offer him a new contract here at any time and he could sign it if he wanted to, but I believe he feels he'll stand a better chance of honours (as well as greater remuneration) elsewhere, which is why he's stalling. He'll wait and see what turns up in the summer, I think, and I still make Liverpool favourites over United for his signature, with City an outside bet. Man U might need him more, but I think he'll be put off by their relative instability (plus the Pochettino links, which are bound to intensify again in the summer, might make things a bit awkward). I'd be very disappointed if he'd consider Cheatski or Arse, but then I've been disappointed before. Whether or not another gig abroad would suit him better, I don't know; depends how settled he and his family are here, I suppose.

There was an arse fan on twitter adamant that we have a Clause in his contact saying he can’t sign for them for £25m but can anyone else

I think all of the above would take him just to weaken us. Emirates Marketing Project and Liverpool definitely would.

Can’t see him going to Arse or Chelsea.

He'll be 31 by the time that 25mil clause comes around. That might just be a little too old for some clubs to pay big money (fee + big wages). I'm hoping he signs a year extension to his current deal removing the clause and bumping his salary. He can retire to Inter in a few years on a Bosman.
