Serge Aurier

He was no worse than anyone else yesterday, still ahead of Trippier.
When Trippier performs like that then he gets rightly criticized for it on here.

FB has turned in to a major area of weakness for us after being one of our strongest areas just a couple of years ago, I only really rate a fit Rose as first choice for where we want to be. The other options we have are back up level players.

I was hoping Rose would be back in the side after his return, but he is back to the bench.

We have gone from having the best FBs for the system we have to two that are not really suited and are mistake ridden.

We badly miss Rose and Walker as much as some still don't want to admit it. Fully accept that Trippier and Davies were playing at a much higher level than they are this season but even at their best neither were a match for the full backs they replaced. I'm still hopeful that Walker-Peters may realise his potential but as it stands right now it's a big weakness in the team along with CM. I'd like to think we will address at least one of these areas in the January window, preferably CM but i'm not holding my breath.

Let’s hope our defensive unit has taken a cold hard look at themselves because they were totally spooked by the Arsenal attack.

He's been better this season, but overall I am not convinced any of our right-back options are good enough. If you picked our 11 best players, then I think right-back and our deeper central midfield players are the first two areas of the team where we can upgrade more easily than the other positions (where we have players of the quality of Lloris, Vertonghen, Eriksen, Kane etc.)

That Walker lad at Emirates Marketing Project looks pretty good...

Hardly any deflection! Many fans owe poor Serge an apology. :ross:

Yes, I doubt the deflection changed the path of the ball at all. Look how Aurier strikes the ball, with the outside of his right foot, applying the spin that sent the ball curving in to the top corner. Great strike and good to see him on form last night even if not against Premier league opposition.

Played well yesterday, need him fit for, at the very least, rotation purposes, but also the RB spot is up for grabs if anyone shows any consistent form there.

Getting better the more i see of him, he seems to be cutting out the rash tackles and he seems more composed going forward. Hope he keeps it up.

Yeah, this is my question too. I guess it's just good rotation on Poch's part, but I'd like to see him start more going forward.

If he isn’t injured I’m really surprised he isn’t even on the bench. Poch usually gives a decent shake to senior players.

Maybe Serge will be a casualty of the HQ player quota, and will move on in the summer to give KWP his chance alongside KT.

It's certainly possible, but that would be the worst outcome, imo. I just don't think Trippier is much good, and we'd be in the same situation of Trippier being an absolute liability whenever KWP's unavailable - and that's assuming that KWP irons out some of his own defensive niggles.

If Aurier leaves, I'd much rather sell Trippier too and get someone like Wan-Bissaka in.
