Sander Berge

Linked, huh?

Be a dove and tell us: By who exactly? When did this purported linkage first happen? In what way are we linked? Where are the quotes?

Well this one came about late at the end of the last window - I remember hearing he was linked and was possibly even over for talks on the last couple of days.

It was mentioned somewhere that they were asking for £25m and we were prepared to pay that, though they wanted him loaned back til the end of the season

He looks the right sort of profile for us (i.e. a Ndombele 12-18 months earlier in his development). Though I am a bit sceptical of players who physically dominate in weak leagues.

Why?

If you have the physical attributes you can transfer that easier than other things IMO

While I do partly agree with you here GB regarding signing players from weak leagues. I'm not sure that is a valid point to make in this particular instance. For a 20 year old to be able to dominate physically in men's football in just about any European league is impressive. The Belgian league is probably also a reasonably physical one, the clubs there tend to sign a number of players of African descent and from what I have seen in the Premiership, Belgian players or players coming over here from Belgium haven't tended to have a problem with the physicality. In saying that, the football is a little slower paced there IMO, so my only real question would be whether the player has decent control and touch that would be transferable to the faster pace in England that would afford the player less time on the ball.

Because players in the PL are stronger on average I think. Physically dominant in smaller leagues might only make you physically average in the PL.

I don’t think we have physically stronger players here. More technical ones but not not the physical ones IMO

Because players like Lorik Cana and Julio Baptista absolutely dominated their leagues with their physicality, but then just couldn't compete in the EPL.

I don't watch the Belgian league at all, and I'm not planning on starting at any point. Just my impression.

Also easier to dominate physically against players that are less technical, better players tend to get away in ways where using a physical advantage is harder.

Not saying he's not a good player mind, he's looked promising from the little I've seen. I don't know if he's good enough.

But I agree with GB that physical dominance doesn't always translate between leagues. Somewhat old, quaint and far from perfect example is Iversen. He was completely dominant physically, particularly in the air, in the then decent Norwegian league. In the PL he was physically average at best.

Going just off of the Youtube compilation I'd say that he is a perfect DM and could dislodge Dier from that role.

The fee has gone from 8 million in August to 15 million in November and close to 25 million now.

What do people think of Dendoncker? He's another player like this, and was standout for Anderlecht against us a few seasons ago.
