Kieran Trippier

Of course Poch is best placed to judge and spends the most time studying these players. Lucky bastard.

I’ve never been Trippiers biggest fan and felt Walker was a lot better in the bigger games but always delighted when he does well for us or England. I just think the World Cup suited his style more than ours with what was a different standard of football plus an insurance inside him if he did struggle in his individual defensive battle. It pains me to say it as a 5ft 8 no paced right back who can’t understand why everyone can’t cross a ball with a bit of spin on it but with us having 3 players for the position it might come down to cashing in on Trippier’s World Cup to give KWP the chance to progress.

An injury / fatigue / confidence is probably impacting Trippier too, but even at his best its always to be difficult for him against a 6ft 2 quick winger. KWP has the same challenges but being younger may be able to hit the protein shakes and has a little bit more recovery pace.

By cutting out his rash lunges Aurier looks to be the safest bet defensively which seemed a long way off last season! I’m not even convinced KWP will become an ever present but he’s getting to the age where we need to back him or move him on.

I really like Wan Bissaka so would not be against moving 2 out to get him in, even one of them to Palace to sweeten the deal.

I’m still behind Trippier and recognise his qualities but over the the course of his time here I’ve never really felt he was more than a plan b against packed defences and not first choice.

I have nothing but admiration for the heights he’s reached in his career.

If Beckham-esque wingers were still in style (along with the classic 4-4-2/4-4-1-1), Tripps would be one of the world's most valuable players. He'd make a magnificent Beckham - a supremely gifted (if somewhat slow) winger who can whip mean crosses into the box, take mean free kicks, pass unexpectedly well, and contribute defensively too.

Sadly, the world's moved on from that formation (at least for now), and Tripps has accordingly been shunted into the right-back slot, a position where his defensive vulnerabilities are costly. And given that teams now rely on the wing-backs to provide width while the wide forwards cut inside/roam, his lack of pace is costly, too.

It's just bad timing. I still think he'd make a good right-winger, but we don't really use traditional wingers, either.

One of the more frustrating things today was where he was getting caught; it wasn't inside or outside, it was high and in an area where both recovery and coverage become tough to read in split second moments. He needs to stop letting his man get a cross in every single time. I thought Rose was excellent today BTW, he is really proving me wrong as he has started to look the business again recently. I hope him and Aurier start against Chelski (both will hopefully get the night off at Tranmere)...

We need to buy a right-back in the summer, it's that simple. By far the weakest area of the squad, no stand-out player among the 3 we have. Keep one of the 3 and buy a new player for the first XI.

His set pieces were wonderful for a short while. Not just for England, the free kick against Fulham, for instance. But yeah, that certainly seems to have gone now.

Either go low (preferable) or high. Mid level height is a tough penalty to pull off, perfect height for keeper if on target, if you take it like a free kick that doesn't help either.

If true whist I appreciate the sacrifice I’d suggest we’d be better off giving him a rest and using Aurier and KWP instead.
Exactly. It’s the one position we probably if anything have too many players in.

You could argue none of sufficient quality, but Aurier or KWP are never going to have a run and a chance to step up if they are second and third choice behind a walking disaster laced up on tranquillisers!
