The Youth Players/On-Loan Thread 2018/19

I know - and he always seems to be used back in AM with his loan clubs too, right?

I would just find it really interesting - is it that he is suffering from his versatility, does he lack some meteorology, or concentration? Even the fact that we're not saying 'He's a CM, play him there or don't bother taking him' which I'm sure we could do, like he doesn't seem to benefit from a clearly defined playing path.

One of our formerly brightest prospects, who Poch took an instant liking to and tried to get him in and around as many first team squads as possible and is now struggling to make that last step. Fascinated as to why.

I had always assumed that he was being played further forward because it was a position with less responsibility and that would aid his step up.

Even that is interesting, in that why Winks or Carroll never needed it. Whether it's strength, mentality, concentration, or something else. He's clearly lacking something but I'd love to see it work out for him.

He resembles the modern deep lying ball carrier / playmaker / press-beater, so you'd think there would have to be a team that would want to use him there.

Maybe he has one last chance with us. Dembele and Wanyama's injury problems must mean that we are looking to bring in CM cover in January, if the right players aren't available maybe we will recall him.

I would genuinely love a coach to offer up their opinion on why Onomah has been used the way he has across a couple of loans now, and the reasons for Spurs letting it happen. Just because it is so interesting - a clearly talented player with some obvious physical gifts too - there has to be a reason as to why it keeps happening. And I think the answers would tell us a lot about youth development and what it takes to become an elite player in general. As has been said, O'Hara, Bentaleb, Mason, Carroll and Winks were all able to get central midfield minutes but for some reason JO isn't even trusted central midfield in the Championship.

I tend to think immediately of Milos point. Its less responsibility. He has obvious talent, skill, vision etc - so should be able to settle into the team in that position. Even if then to move back when established.

As a manager, playing a talented but introverted player, its the "safe" option.

I think thats the paradox with him. His talent cannot be questioned, the boy has the lot. BUT he doesnt look to me at least as one who believes it. He doesnt impress himself on matches or opponents.

Winks, OHara, Bentaleb, clearly never had that "yeah, but what about..." factor. I am convinced with Onomah its a mental thing. With them it was never doubted, with him it is.

So rumours on social media is youngster Parrot was left out of the u23 game as he is travelling with the first team up to Leicester.

Good for him. He's what - 17? Quite the prolific goalscorer by the sounds of things.
Even if it's just for first team matchday squad familiarity it's still great experience.
If the rumour mill is true, of course.

He is apparently 16?

When i went to a tour of the training ground last year they explained all about the youth structure and went into detail about the path to the first team and its a massive achievement just to be in the first team squad.

Of we could have a youngster from the academy as a legitimate sub for Kane that would be far better than having Janssen and Llorente eating away at the wage bill and not playing.

So 16 would indicate that he’s physical advanced for his years or has something special to put him so far ahead in his development. Obviously don’t want any more comparisons since the unfortunate one with Messi for Edwards (I still hope he comes good, to have someone who can get a goal from nothing is still something to behold) but what type of player is Parrott? A target man with good feet or a paces skillfull type? Can he play anywhere other than CF?

I've only seen him twice and would say he's a raw talent, he certainly knows where the goal is and gets in good positions, he's physically well developed but I would say a million miles away from first team football, it's far too early to say how he will develop.

Sounds enough for me to give Poch the ok to call him the “new Ronaldo” to the media!

I just missed the match, but it seems that our lads beat 'em 2-0 on their turf. IT'S A SIGN!

But seriously, that's got to be pretty damn impressive, right?

I only saw about 20 mins of second half and the team looked impressive, Magohma, Markanday, White and Austin all looked proper players, Parrott did well and Roles always surprises me, he doesnt catch the eye but he seems involved in a lot of the good things we do.
