Jan Vertonghen

He’s a very elegant centre back and arguably better on the ball than a couple of our centre mids. As his game isn’t built on his physicality I’d like to think he’s got a few years left and I hope it’s with us.
He's fairly quick for a centre back, we play with a high line and often very attacking full backs. Our centre backs get into a lot of situations that many slower centre backs really struggle in. Vertonghen will have to adapt when he starts getting slower, but he could do that I think.

Bad news : It's being reported now that his injury is a bad one and he is out for "4-6 weeks", or "6 weeks at the least"- depending which journalist you go with.

Incredible irony that Roberto Martinez broke this news, as he is responsible for this injury.

I warned many weeks ago that Jan needed to be rested, yet he was picked to play 90 mins constantly by both us and Belgium.

Understandable that he was repeatedly picked by us as all games were of great importance but Martinez inexplicably opted to play Jan TWICE in a few days, both again for 90 mins in meaningless games.

Pure and simple this Martinez is a fudging prick and should be heavily sanctioned by the club.

Ban him from the NWHL for 2 years and arrange for his home computer to be hacked with gay porn.

Centre backs don't need resting. We don't really run that much - if you are, you've kind of got it wrong already. Like with a GK, 50-60 starts a season is no sweat.

That is bad news, he is our best defender ( imo) and we miss his calmness at the back.

It is bad news but at least we have good cover in the position in the form of Sanchez. We’re always going to get injuries through the season.

Losing Dembélé (not that we are in any way strong in that position even with him), Eriksen or Kane for 4-6 weeks would be a bigger problem.

Hard to disagree with that, however i do rate Toby and Sanchez but for me Jan is the leader of our defense and we never look the same without him.

Big big issue is the lack of a left sided centre back though

When exposed down that side it’s realky hurt us

That's a myth. Lots of teams play with only right footed or left footed CB's. Doesn't make any difference. There are positive and negative effects either way.

Having seen us play without Jan it’s a weakness

Barca exposes Sanchez lack of a left foot constantly on Wednesday

City will target it too in 2 weeks time and they will get plenty of ball off the back of it

He could have had 3 left feet, and Barca would still cause us trouble. That argument is just utter gonad*s.
