Our defence had 2 poor matches even with Alderweireld playing. And they will be even more poor without Alderweireld and with error-prone Sanchez and Dier coming into the defence. With the error-prone Vorm in goal, can't see us keeping a clean sheet in this match.

Now we don't really know that. He's been like this off and since the ankle injury last March.
I spent April and May saying he was "not right" and was told to foxtrot oscar!
If he keeps reporting he's fine and Pochettino accepts Harry's assessment then what can anybody do?
Personally, he would be on a beach somewhere now. But Spurs don't do long-term planning thus the current and recurring problems.

He needs telling from what we are seeing from Pochettino.
He wont stop playing for his country!

He had the maximum possible break once the WC finished. Anything longer would have meant weeks out at the start of the season. Maybe that would indeed have been for the best - though there's still no guarantee - but I'm struggling to recall any other top club ever doing what you suggest, so not sure why you're digging out Tottenham?

Ah relax. For long term planning, no one beats us. For me, Levy is almost placing too much emphasis on the long term at the expense of the current group of players.

I think we’ve gone as far as we can with this group. It’s going a bit stale and Levy isn’t backing the manager in the transfer market. Presumably he’s doing that in the interests of his long term plan to have a massive revenue stream (the stadium) without putting us under too much pressure with debt.

You can accuse Levy of many things and he’s annoyed me over the last 3 months. But you could never accuse him of not having a long term plan.
 
I have say I agree with most of what you say!
So you think the current setup is in for a major overhaul, that includes the coaching team?
It would make some sense out of the current muddle.
 
This may be oversimplfying things but what seems to have happened during the summer is Levy told Poch: Listen, we're up to our neck in debt because of the new stadium but we'll do all we can to keep the players you want by upping their pay and extending their contracts. But when it comes to getting new players there's nomoney in the kitty so you can only use the proceeds from what you sell.

So Poch said okay, I'm fine with that. Toby, Rose and Dembele can go along with Sissoko, N'koudou and one or two others, that should raise enough to get some decent replacements in.

Except Levy then placed too high a price tag on the listed players at the same time as clubs like United, Chelsea and others were tightening their belts and/or looking elsewhere.

Hence where we are now, gridlock.
 
Not selling a single player has really compounded my feeling of confusion with all thing Spurs this season.
The idea of a pending major changes suggested by @DeanoAustin would at least would see Levy showing his normal excellent control.

Probably this. With the caveat that Levy would have told Poch that after securing the core of our side this season, next season there would be a decent kitty available.

I don't think we signed no-one by choice? Some posters come across as if we did?

eg If United would let us have Martial, the swap with Toby would have happened.

Squad wise we are ok maily because 3 who should have gone are more than good enough to stay and be part of the squad. Shifting the deadwood has been a problem though, and it would be interesting to see how much loss we would have to swallow on the likes of Sissoko,GNK,Janssen,Llorente etc

The 'two decent signings' argument is valid from the angle of momentum, fresh faces and competition for places. Players can get comfortable.

Supporters expectations have risen, and a groundhog day season (which on the face of it, is the best we can currently hope for) does get tedious (y'know top 3, Cl tedious:)) but we have to stick with it and pray to GHod that Poch still thinks we are progressing and hope he feels supported when need be. If he starts to think it has run its course in his head...he'll be gone.

If you think major changes is a change of coaching team, then imo that is the complete opposite to what Levy thinks. Poch is gold to him.

I think it is very clear what happened.
Poch likes a tight squad.
All signs were that Dembele, Rose, Alderweireld and possibly Wanyama were out.
Said players wage-priced themselves out of moves. We are stuck with them.

I do not believe money is the main issue I think it is numbers versus a top player looking and seeing an Alderweireld or Dembele still here and pondering why they’d make that move.
