Mateo Kovacic

Chelsea have a seriously stacked midfield now, probably the most balanced in the league (alongside Liverpool) with good back up as well, although along with Liverpool they don't all have premiership experience.

But their defence looked a weak link last season and they didn’t have a centre forward or top quality

Be interested to see how Sarri gets them playing

Yes, Morata seemed very limp and I read they didn't have a shot on target in a recent game, or only 1 effort or something...

I think they didn't have a lot of grit in Conte's 2nd season, the players are good e.g. Alonso, Rudiger, Christensen, Azipilicueta, Cahill (older but experienced) are all decent. Palmeiri and Zappacosta now have some league experience and didn't look too bad. I think it's easy to underestimate other teams players - the manager by all accounts is pretty good and will have them organised well with a lot of power/pace going forwards.

CF is still a weakness though, maybe with a more attacking manager Morata may play better or midfield might chip in more.

Only rate Azpel an Alonso out of that lot personally and Alonso can’t pkay left back IMO, just wing back.

The remainder are IMO part of the reason they have declined so much

The so called special relationship ended years ago, why do people keep going on about it.
I think it ended immediately after they signed Modric, then got resurrected when they signed Bale only to again end immediately after. I expect it will come back into play for a day or two if they have a proper go at signing Kane.

Given that Chelsea don’t appear to have attempted to sign a striker, it seems as if Serri wants to put his faith in Morata. Perhaps Morata can adapt this season though, not like he will be starved of service with the Chelsea midfield.

Kovacic is bought with no option to buy.

So they are stilting the development of their own players for the sake of having one season out of Kovacic.
Well it gives them another season to find someone better than Bakayoko who went. Are you telling me you wouldn’t of taken that deal whilst selling Dembele or an unwanted midfielder?
