Ndombele

Id rather keep a half fit Dembele

And use Onomah more

Imo Onomah would be a 40 mill rated player after one season playing centre mid in Ligue 1

I think that's the way to keep everyone satisfied - those who like academy graduates and those who like exotic name signings. Get him to change his name by deed-poll to Jos N'onomah and announced we've signed him from someone like Metz for £40m. People would suddenly see lots in him that they've never noticed before.

Some of the responses on this thread are grim and oddly a little jingoistic tbh. Ndombele just came off a completely ridiculous season at Lyon and is the best young, CM prospect in the world. I am a huge Onomah fan, but there's no comparison between these guys as prospects. If we could get him — I really doubt we could, considering all the biggest teams in the world are after him and Lyon don't want to sell — we should absolutely do it.

Also, about the source, Paris United is really reliable when it comes to French Football. They were one of the earliest breakers of the Moura story in the winter window.

Also, if you want to learn something about the player rather than make "N'whatever" jokes, read this. https://statsbomb.com/2018/03/identifying-ligue-1s-next-breakout-talent-tanguy-ndombele/

I don't see the fuss tbh. "Best young CM prospects in the world "? Even the over enthusiastic writer of the article says the player is "clumsy at times", puts too much weight in his passes, very little creativity, average passer, rarely shoots and when does of "below average quality", very few instances of turning defensive action into transition opportunities

He is, as the article ends, a "decent prospect at this stage in his development".....that is all. A guy who likes to dribble, strong, effective at shielding the ball. I'm sorry but we need to be looking for more than that. As I've said a half fit Dembele can do all that and more.

Yeah, he's definitley going to have holes in his game as he's still just 21, which is especially young for a CM. Remember, Dembele was basically playing as a winger in the Dutch league at the same age. However, if you look at the positives, the powerful dribbling, great upper body strength, and the high passing numbers (the radar shows that he's very good at both overall passing percentage and, importantly, key passes) — it does remind you of a young Dembele.

I'm not saying he's better than Mousa right now — he isn't. But it feels like MD has decided to leave, so I think this guy would be the one to replace him long-term. It'd probably mean we'd go into the season with Winks as the first-choice Dembele replacement and one of Wanyama/Dier alongside him, with TD sort of easing his way into the Premier League as the season goes on. Otherwise, you are looking at an Wanyama/Dier and Onomah/Winks midfield, which I'd doubt many fans would feel super confident about.

Strikes me as exactly the sort of player we should be going for, given his raw attributes I could imagine Poch moulding him into a quality player.

Thats not to say he improves us immediately, but he is the sort of player we should be interested in speculating on.

And I actually dont think he is like a young Dembele, more like a 25-26 year old Dembele. At 21 Dembele was nothing like he is now, I think people forget. In those terms NDombele has a head start...

What do you think of Onomah the deep lying midfielder, not the one asked to play further forward

As stated many times, I think he is too passive whenever he has played for us.

If Villa has taught him to assert himself more, and he is now ready to step up and really show us what he's got then Ill happily see him get a chance.

Honestly though, I suspect its more likely he will be on his way out sooner or later.

Considering he's still an Amiens player, we're pretty stupid if we're negotiating with Lyon for him. :p

Spurs eye £35m swoop for France starlet
Tottenham are busy trying to reinforce their squad after securing new deals for Maurico Pochettino and Harry Kane.

The North London club are talking to Lyon about a £35m deal for France Under 21 midfielder Tanguy Ndombele – with the Argentine coach involved in the deal.

But the French club want £52m – and relations between the two clubs are not good following Hugo Lloris’ transfer in 2012.

Inter Milan defender Danilo D’Ambrosio, who can play all across the backline line, is also a target. Mousa Dembele could be part of the deal.
