Cycling thread

That’s not true, he used to be, but now he is one of the best, certainly of the GC riders.

He had nothing to lose and went for it, Yates blew up and Dumoulin fudged up by waiting, had he gone with Froome he’d have won the Giro.

This is the sort of thing Merckx and Coppi used to do regularly and be lauded for, sadly any modern attempt is assumed to be “a Landis”. I admit that had certain other riders pulled it off I’d be suspicious, I’m not suspicious about Froome or Sky though.

With his outstanding AAF he’s being tested every single day, he’s also carrying extra power meters to provide more data to the managing bodies. However he is achieving his perfromance, it’s within the letter of the law.

Which is what everyone thought of Armstrong until the testing regimes caught up.

Yep, me too.

The difference is that back then I thought Lance wasn’t taking anything, now I just think that Froome isn’t taking anything banned.

I also think that Sky aren’t doing anything different to most of professional football, cricket, rugby etc.

Can not believe Froome got off.

Well I can, money buys you good lawyers. This is the least excited I have been before the start of a Tour in years. Will watch for Cavendish the greatest British sports star of all time.

Shame because we have some lovely young cyclists coming through.

So can Thomas actually win this or is everyone still expecting Froome to do it again?

There is still a week to go and 5/6 GC days, Froome is the better rider no doubt but with Dumoulin so close to him they’ll have to protect G first and foremost, it’s going to be really interesting.

Froome and Dumoulin are both better in a TT than G, nothing between the two of them though imo.

Not to say G can’t turn it on in one, he’s riding as well as he ever has and they both have the Giro in their legs.

Nope, first sign of weakness and they will drop him like your wife drops her knickers.

That was a great Tour and seeing Thomas win will be my sporting highlight of this year.

Chapeau, as always, to ITV4 for fantastic coverage, although sad to hear that Chris Boardman is stepping down.

It was so fudging deserved that Kristoff won today! Finally! He's been 2nd twice, and third twice at Champs Elysee. Second Norwegian to win there after Thor Husovd won the stage in 2006. Thomas a very worthy winner. I like him, as opposed to Froome.

Kristoff is fcuking useless and only won because every decent sprinter was not there and Sagan was injured, Kristoff is a classics man not a sprinter and the tour is going like the Vuelta making it to tough for sprinters with different body set to other cyclists to get to the finish.

Agree about Thomas.

European Champion
Olympic bronze medalist
World championship silver
Winner Fleche-Valon
Winner Milan-San Remo
Winner Flandern
4 time winner Echborn - Frankfurt
4 Tour de France stage wins
To name a few. Pretty useless...

You can only beat the ones that are participating. He set up the sprint perfectly, and won it fair and square. The ones who wasn't there, where not strong enough, and didn't make the time limit.

I get he comes from the same country as you and all that but he should not be winning the sprint stage in Paris. This year the tour has been more like the vuelta and it is poorer for it.

Would loved to have seen Garcia against Kittel battling it out.

As much as I love him cav is finished on the road and should focus on the Tokyo Olympics.
