OMT The Mighty THFC vs Abu Dhabi City

Overall, we were very poor. I think Guardiola has Poch's number right now, hopefully Poch will work out how to do better like we have done with Liverpool this season.

What was up with Kane? Worst game I've seen Harry have, I don't even remember him having a shot.

Harry is rusty as fudge. Will bang in at least two hat tricks in the remaining matches of the season though. :D

We should have gone balls out and attacked from the off or sat behind the ball and killed the game.

We did neither.

Complete fudge up by all.

you cant attack from the off against this kind of team without attacking forwards....maybe Son or Lucas should have started.

Lloris is becoming a liability... full backs?...Tripper and Davies or Aurrier and Rose?

Anyway , a bad day at the office.

Harry is clearly not fully fit after the injury lay off

Makes a bit of a mockery of Poch excluding Toby because he is deemed not fit/ready

Yeah would have needed to started a different team.

I prefer Serge over trips anyway, trips is very limited.

Solid back up, but wouldn’t start him

Let’s keep some perspective. City are far and away the best team in the league. And we have beaten Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea and United this season. Not to mention Madrid and Dortmund.

Agree but dont mention Dortmund....they are poor

What was different in our preparation and setup in those games? We’ve seen wildly different performances against the same opposition this season too, we are not always hooked up the way we should be imo, are City better than us, yeah, that much better, no way.

Is it arrogance from Poch? Again we’ve come away from a game annoyed at our ineffectiveness but also feeling like they could easily have scored more. We’ve clearly got the tools to win games like this but so rarely happens.
Took a while but managed to work out Liverpool this year, hope he works out City quicker

We looked so poor tonight it really is concerning!

I'm confident we'll bounce back against Brighton. We have looked quite poor the last few games v City, Guardiola has got his tactics right for us, they kill our centre midfield at the start of the last 3 games we've played against them. We always look all over the place in the first 30 mins against them, today was the same. Then Guardiola made a tactical change in the 2nd half with Sterling going central and we started to struggle again.

We won't look that bad again this season.

With everyone fit and contracts sorted, what is our best side?

Trippier Toby Sanchez Verts Rose

Eriksen Dier/Dembele(rotating)
Moura/Son(rotating) Alli

Kane

?

Sadly we need more legs/pace in holding midfield for a start. Today was bad and too many players so poorly and I don't think we are as bad as today normally, City were head shoulders above us in attacking pace.
If we really believe Toby will be paid what he wants we really are deluding ourselves.

I think we have better movement going forward with Alli playing on the left wing. He can see angled runs into the centre. I also like Eriksen playing deeper in the Modric role. But able to move forward into space around the box - which is so hard to defend. Then Moura and Son just seem to have the edge of Lamela; whos hard working but lacks a bit of clarity/confidence attacking. Lamela needs games and it could come, but Son's finishing is better, and Moura seems like a more allround player. Great to have all of them. If we played the team I posted on the previous page, I think we'd be dynamite.

I agree generally.
I cannot see Dier continuing in our team, he so bloody slow it's frightening. He a nice lad but he just does not cut it for me. If City are the benchmark then we need some changes to the current roster.

Toby has 2 years on his contract - weren't they Poch's words before this game? If so may be just may be he will stay. If not we need one more quality CB.

As for legs in holding midfield, that comes from the 3 CBs, one of whom have to step out into midfield when required. You also have relatively free FBs who can cover in the middle if say Eriksen is forward.

I think we'd be very strong with that team and shape. As mentioned above, Alli coming in off the wing seems to find more space, as does Eriksen arriving from deep. He can also dictate the game from there - start moves and run onto return passes etc.

I like you selection but we won't keep Toby imho and we have a pace problem in defensive midfield.

Why is everyone picking on Sanchez? Sure he made a couple of mistakes but was still miles better than Lloris, Kane, Alli and Lamela - just for starters...

He made at least 3 shot blocking last ditch lunges. I think we just miss some composure, organisation and cohesion at the back that Toby seems to instil. City are very good, so could have made Toby look like a mug too.

Sanchez was terrible mate, he cost us 2 goals along with Lloris who was equally poor.. The others were just meh. In mitigation of Sanchez he didn’t get helped out as much as he should have by Lloris, Trippier and Dier but his performance was poor nonetheless certainly not what I would describe as “miles better” than any one else
