BREAKING NEWS

Borussia Dortmund have pulled the plug on Andre Schurrle's two-year loan to Swansea because Andriy Yarmolenko was injured in training yesterday, according to Sky sources.

The former Chelsea midfielder has been linked with Saudi Sportswashing Machine and West Brom in this window.

Schurrle appears to be surplus to requirements at Dortmund and has started just two Bundesliga games this season.
 
A REMINDER – 5PM DEADLINE

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is at Arsenal's London Colney training ground to finalise his transfer from Borussia Dortmund.

However, it’s worth noting that matters could be complicated by the German transfer window shutting at 5pm.

Dortmund are looking to sign a replacement with Michy Batshuayi linked with a loan move.

He is a hell of a player.

As I said originally though, if he strengthens them - it is only a marginal improvement to the already strongest element of their team.

So its more like they havent got worse, rather than they have significantly improved.

Had they gone and got a quality CM and CB Id be much more concerned.

As it is, on balance - I think this window they are worse off.
 
I dont know, I think with Myrktttarayayan and him they are better off. Walcott didnt play, neither did Cocquelin. They still have Ozil so I think they have improved. Look, they arent gonna win the league but with his goals they can certainly push for top 4.
 
Mkhitaryan has barely played in 2 years. While I think he has quality I think we need to wait and see how he goes.

Coquelin played a fair bit, and was the only player capable of holding midfield, and he has gone.

And while I dont think Walcott is amazing, he was good for them and contributed.

And as I say, as good as Auba is - so was Sanchez - so while he is quality is he adding anything?
 
Just with Sanchez underperforming it was like he wasn't there this season anyway so with that I think they are stronger now.

Yes, let's see. I hope it doesnt work out but likelihood is that he will score goals as he is probably one of the top 5 strikers in the world. They basically have themselves a Kane now.

I do agree that they havent sorted their midfield or defence out though.
 
I'm not sure that he's one of the top 5 strikers in the world, unless you're limiting the definition to penalty box type players. Maybe top 10-15

Either way, he certainly strengthens them so handy that they lost last night. He's also joining a team which is 8 points behind 4th, and you can add another point for their rubbish GD. There's also only 13 games so they need to win 3 of those last 13 just to draw level. He'll make them more competitive next year though
 
Arsenal faced losing Sanchez and Ozil for nothing in the summer. They at least got a player who could work for them in exchange. Don't forget Mkhitaryan was a dwarf among his teammates at United so Arsenal's style might help him more. Aubameyang could be a good replacement for Sanchez, or as good as they could get. The other players they have got rid of were peripheral. The Telegraph was reported that Bild were reporting that Ozil had signed a new contract.

So overall I think it is a good window for them and sets them up for some decent summer dealing (where they have to deal with the defence). It might also be a sign that their new structure will work better rather than a stubborn Wenger doing it all, which is rather disappointing.

There is always this. In the past Aubameyang has expressed his desire to play in Spain instead of the PL. If there is any interest he could start stirring for a move. The problem is that he has to be scoring to get the interest, which we don't really want either.

I don't disagree with your broader comments, however if they fail to make the CL, they might face similar problems that we did when we were a regular EL team, not a CL team. That said, we were also hampered by wages.

I also think they need to sort out their CM, as well as defence, as Xhaka is by now means a top 4 player and, even setting aside that I think he's massively over-rated, Wheelchair is never fit. Their transfer policy at the moment feels like constant mad scrambling around to patch holes in order to appease the fans. Lacazette felt like that and the two this window definitely do
 
Well, as Pep has shown the odd £300 million will do wonders for a defence. Arsenal's problems may be more like Liverpool's, the organisation of the defence, which includes the defensive role of the CMs. Is Xhaka the problem or is there something more fundamental?

You are right that lack of CL could be a handicap. I think their January dealings will help their chase, but the gap looks a bit too big.
