Rage, tears and disbelief filled rant thread

It's the indifference.

I get that Spurs supporters all have their own priorities towards certain tournaments and at this moment of the season due to how things have panned out, the FA Cup is perhaps the least important to the other three fronts we're fighting on.

Personally , I'm gutted the players chosen to do the job yesterday, couldn't reproduce a four goal win just as they did in the previous round against Burnley. I feel disappointment that Capoue couldn't score us another piledimperial shag, or we didn't get to see Paulihno score another goal, maybe Solly and Lamela add a couple more too.

If they had showed that they could get the job done, would it not make the likelihood of Spurs succeeding on the other fronts, more likely? I happen to think it would. The fringe players finding form can only enhance our chances in the other competitions so I just don't get this idea or agree, that it's one less tournament to worry about so we will be stronger in the one's that we're still in .

The draw for the 5th round is Monday evening and as far as I'm concerned it will now be a sad occasion for me .

i agree with all that, taking the game in isolation it was a worrying performance/result and one which we should have won.

I doubt Poch would've wanted us to go out in order to free up a couple of mid weeks and weekends though and he knows the squads capabilities.

i would certainly hope that Poch wanted us to go out and win the game, as with all games. would never forgive a manager sending out a team in the hope that it lost/got knocked out.

i would probably think though that now the game is over, he will appreciate the extra time available to work on the team to ensure we finish the season as strong as possible

Agreed Roy, unlike some of our fans, he didn't think a replay would have been worse than losing. And yes, he knows the capabilities of his squad better than we do (or he should). There's an awful lot made in here of our fixture list. Some posters bring it up every day. Not sure of the level of specific and detailed knowledge they can have on that from a distance, especially since this is deepest squad we have had in a while (or ever?).

He has basically rotated since the start of the season. Yesterday was nothing new. Most of the players that started yesterday were, in the circumstances, fairly fresh. And experienced. I haven't read or heard anywhere that they all looked tired. That was a side that should have been able to beat a Leicester City side at home and (to me) fixtures had little or nothing to do with it.

Honestly, rotation had nothing to do with it ..

at the end we lost control of the game, seemed crappy upfront and open in the back, right back to the start of the season when we were playing Kaboul, Capoue, Ade in the same side .. ohh wait ..

Hope it's the last time Poch needs to learn that lesson again, the subs changed the game for the worse for us, if he had just let the game run out, we would have had our 1-0.

It's okay I've got this :eek:k: My NLD record at WHL is 3 wins from 3 matches all 2-1 and I don't intend to see it relinquished in 2 weeks time. The lucky replica shirt/jeans/socks will be donned including stopping at the lucky services and making sure we have a Burger King...not that we are the least bit superstitious!

Excellent. I'll be back to basics for this one - Block 41. No more touring of the stands!

You mean the season where king played 20 games and he faded horribly for the last 5-10 or so to the point where people agreed that he finally looked shot?

Ledley was one of our greatest but kaboul was an excellent defender for Portsmouth and for 2.5 seasons with us.

His best season was the 2010/2011 where he partnered dawson, king and gAllas and 2011/2012 before he got injured. His reading of the game has always been up and down but during that period his concentration, positioning, aggression, strength and pace was top class,

Your right he's finished but I hate these fans who rubbish him completely because his last year has been poor. He suffered two horrendous injuries as he was coming into his peak and there were more than a muttering at spurs that he may never play again. It seems to fit the current narrative to only judge him on his first season as a 19 year old and this last year to support the argument.

Same goes for Dawson who lots of people also completely rubbish and say 'never good enough but a true spurs man' True his last year or so was pony but he also suffered two horrific knee injuries that basically ruined any pace and recovery he had and stopped his ability at making last ditch blocks.

Sad end for both players but football is so short termist in that people forget that both of these players were blossoming into very very good PL centre halves before they got cut down.

I lost 18months through a cruciate and a top sports physio said that if your lucky you can only lose 10% of your previous power and strength. Seeing as both players relied more on physicality as opposed to brain power I can only imagine how debilitating those injuries were at that level to their ability and also confidence.

Kaboul has acted a bit of a prat over the past month but give respect when it is due. Same goes for dawson. Both of them at their peak would walk into our back line.

He is complete rubbish now. He wasn't before, he was very good at times. And I think we all underestimated the effect Ledley had on him while he was at the club, which both you and I know goes beyond Ledley's own deficiencies or pros as a player.

Fair enough? I can't find anything particularly objectionable in your statement, either.

I think the sooner people accept that the manager does not have the squad he really wants, and the sooner people accept that the likes of Capoue, Kaboul and Ade are not anywhere close to the future of this club or this manager's vision, the better. I love Poch and have to believe he had reasons for playing them all yesterday, but I cannot fully comprehend what they were.

our squad is paper thin on quality. We have little potency up front without Kane, virtually no creativity without Eriksen and a very shaky defence heavily reliant on Lloris. We have quantity but little quality. That is why I am so disappointed that we haven't strengthened in key positions this window - especially up front.

you've kind of touched on it yourself - we have quantity not quality. i don't know how many players we have registered out of the 25 spaces allowed but id imagine it's close to maximum?

Naughton has gone - so we must have room for at least one!

It's more about wages and what little we save on Naughton is already spent on new deals for Kane and Mason.

You can guess where that responsibility might lie...

Absolutely. At least the manager sees it. He is having to undo the contracts of others. It does all bring Baldini even further into focus, given that it appears the majority of signings with the Bale money were at the very least prompted by him; I wonder if he has naughty photos of Dan?!!!!!!!

I watched that winning goal and saw the spectacle of a man rolling on the ground, seemingly wrestling with a rubber alligator before pushing it off and into a waiting cage.

Which means I'm very cynical about the conclusion of the game. The ball was crossed into a box featuring very loose marking and played towards a goalie who managed to get it into the goal in a piece of performance art that looked like a living tribute to the zaniest moments of Arsenal's 'Eyechart' Szczezny.

The silver lining in this outcome is apparent for all to see when you look at the fixture list between now and the first week of March. Nine games. All of them vital, none of them easy. If we'd had a replay with Leicester, it would have left little recovery time before the NLD. By being out of the FA Cup, we have eight days off between away at Liverpool and the EL home tie with Fiorentina. An FA Cup tie would have split the down time in half.

I think the priority is well and truly on the EL and the league. A win or draw Thursday and a domestic cup final is achieved in what must be considered fortuitous circumstances over a less stressing time period than the FA Cup's concluding rounds, played over the closing stages of the league season. The EL draws will be sapping and for a squad of our overall depth in quality, we can't be fighting on four fronts and expecting to win much.

I must admit, it was an absolutely pathetic error...I can see where you're going but cannot possibly accommodate it beyond that (consider that a shortcoming on my part BTW mate).

i think in the long run..it's not about priorities or preferences but about mentality and that takes a while to instill. Poch has to be given time to develop not only a winning mentality but also an absolute hatred of losing throughout the Club, to the extent that no matter who, when or at what level we are playing..we hate to lose. that is a tall order.

I suspect that a lot of those belittling the FA cup and saying it has lost its magic, are the same one who will be doing cartwheels if we win the (less prestigious) league cup.

Theres a good chance, come tomorrow evening, that the worst may happen, and we will be wishing that we were still in the FA cup.

That's always the risk though. Regardless of decisions there's always a risk of failure, and that failure can come in almost innumerable versions.

Poch made what I think was a solid decision. Both thinking about the league cup semi final and the following PL and EL games. With that decision there was a risk, just like there were risks associated with his other decisions. He has to make his decisions and live by them, fans can and will always complain regardless of decisions when inevitable failures result.

I've seen very few posters actually belittle the FA cup in itself. And posters that will be doing cartwheels if we win the league cup will surely also be doing cartwheels next time we win the FA cup. It's about priorities and being realistic about our current situation from most posters, not belittling the FA cup. Had we been out of the league cup it would have been a completely different situation.

I would love to see us really go for the FA Cup next season. If that means the Europa League pays the price then so be it.

Not really a decision that has to be made, or should be made, until February really.

The only reason we chose to rotate heavily for the FA cup 4th round game this season was because of the league cup semi final. 3rd and 4th round FA cup games are played far enough from any EL games and are given time in the PL schedule so no real interference there. Chances are we won't be in the LC semis next season.

Not going to give up on any group stage EL because of the potential of the FA-cup, so after the first knockout stage of the EL (and 4th round of the FA cup) is really the first place where choosing to prioritize one over the other becomes relevant at all. At which point football may well have taken that decision away from us, or if we're struggling or doing particularly well in the league that might also change what we see as our main targets that season.
