Apathy. The title track has possibly one of the best beats I've ever heard

Another quality mixtape/album is by Example

    HipHop is Dead,

Thats coming from me whos a massive hiphop fan who listened to Biggie Smalls since 1994.

Today hiphop is full of the same old fake lyrics about drugs, hoes, and guns half of which none of these artists are involved in in real life.

Just broaden your horizon of what youre listening to. If you listen to Lil Wayne, 50, Chamillionaire, Ja Rule (if he's still alive), and rappers of that ilk, of course it;'s all you're gonna hear. Open your mind, listen to some Talib Kweli (his solo albums, as well as collaborative efforts with Reflection Eternal & Black Star) , Tonedeff, Chords, Jean Grae, Example, CunninLynguists, Pharoahe Monch, Copywrite (Let Me In, is still one of the funniest songs I've everr heard LOL), Common, Immortal Technique.

Not all hip hop is the same. It;s just a case of listening to stuff that you wouldn't normally. I've been listenin to hip hop since late 80's, early 90s, and there is much more diverse styles now than there ever has been.

I quite like the album "Who want's to be a Millionaire" I think you're thinking of. Big on play at the moment. Also listenin to Professor Green again recently, new Lectures LP out soon, should be good.

I hate Bashy. He used to go to my barbers in Ladbroke Grove and he's totally different to how he acts on tv  or the lyrics he spits. Lives in some big house in Kensal Rise and talks about living in the ghettoRoll.

As for Bashy the mc, i think he's hit and miss. Lyrically he's nothing better then average but i have seen him spit some overly nice bars in freestyles.

Seen them a few times and got a few albums. They tend to start off hip-hop and mix through break beats, big beat and a little D'n'B and harder stuff.  Never heard Plus One solo so couldn't comment tbh.

Somehow managed to miss the Nextmen first time around so I've been listening to their first couple of albums a lot recently. Very cool stuff.

If you haven't heard Music For the Mature B-Boy by DJ Format go get it asap. It's wonderful and it's British.

Been listening to a fair bit of hip hop lately, both on CD and at gigs.

Saw Q-Tip a month back in Camden - was very good, a really energetic performance.  The only thing that spoiled it was Gilles Peterson presenting him with a gooner shirt at the end of the gig.

Saw Madlib a few weeks ago at Fabric - was pants.  I expected some real turntablism but he just stood around expecting to get loads of love from the crowd without actually doing anything to warrant this love.  Clearly a better producer than he is a performer.  Very disjointed - I've never understood the need to put skits into a live performance!

Saw the Roots at the Southbank Centre last weekend - was good (as always), although I'd question the venue for a hip hop gig.  The drum-off between Questlove and Knuckles was one of the finest bits of showmanship I've ever seen.

Hip Hop died around '95 IMO best period was from around 87 up until 95.. although i quite liked some of the old skool Grandmaster flash, Cool DJ herc, Kurtis Blow, Whodini etc

I was at that as well, that drum off was quality, quite liked the 91 year old sax dude as well.   It was a strange venue for a hip hop gig and a strange mix of people, there was a 45 year old lesbian in front of me doing the craziest dancing I've ever seen, she literally let the music take over her entire body, absolutely hilarious!!   funny how everyone was sat down at the start as well, desperate to stand up but nobody quite had the guts to do so until Black thought said, "i know those seats are comfortable but you can stand up"  how reserved and British was that!
