    Sir K 33:
Spurs look to land United winger in loan deal?
    11:45 AM 29 June, 2009

Jonas Gutierrez is a target for Tottenham Hotspur Football Club.

The Argentine international penned a five-year deal when he joined Newcastle United last summer, but he couldn’t prevent the Magpies suffering relegation from the Premier League.

United are said to have forked out around £10million for the forward, who will turn 26-years-old next week, and they know they will struggle to recoup this amount.

Reports suggest Harry Redknapp is looking to take Gutierrez to Spurs on an initial one-season loan deal, with the view to a permanent deal next summer.

However, there will be no guarantee of a transfer on either side, so if Newcastle reclaim their place at the top table in 2010/11, they would be able to take the player back.

    We face competition for Cana:

    GUNNERS TURN SIGHTS ON CANA

    Story Image

    TARGET: Lorik Cana

    Wednesday July 1,2009

    By Frank Wiechula

ARSENAL target Felipe Melo has signed a one-year contract extension at Italian club Fiorentina tying him there until June 2013 – with Gunners boss Arsene Wenger switching his focus to Spurs target Marseille skipper Lorik Cana.

Cana said: “The door remains open for a departure, even with three years remaining on my contract.

“I will talk with my family and my representatives. It will then depend on what I want to do. Of the possible destinations in the future, England and Germany are the two leagues that attract me the most.”

Cana is a fans’ favourite at Marseille, but wants to show he can compete at the highest level. Defensive midfielder Melo, 25, who helped Brazil win the Confederations Cup in South Africa on Sunday, has been linked to the Gunners and Inter Milan.

An unspecified escape clause has been inserted into the Melo deal.

Arsenal have given professional contracts to four members of their successful FA Youth Cup team, defenders Luke Ayling, 17, Craig Eastmond, 18, Cedric Evina,17, and goalkeeper James Shea, 18.

They have also released eight more, including Portugal Under-21 midfielder Amaury Bischoff and Rui Fonte, the striker on loan at Crystal Palace last season.

Spurs and Manchester United target Mirko Vucinic happy to stay at Roma

    By Sportsmail Reporter

Mirko Vucinic's agent has revealed Premier League clubs have expressed an interest in his client but the Montenegro forward will remain at Roma.

Vucinic is a target of Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur this summer.

"There are interests, especially from Premier League clubs, but no one has officially contacted me," said Vucinic's agent Alessandro Lucci.

Don't go: Roma players try to hold on to Mirko Vucinic

Vucinic was Roma's second top scorer last season behind team captain Francesco Totti with 11 goals. The 25-year-old last month extended his contract with the club until June 2013.

"Mirko is very happy to remain at Roma," said Lucci. "He recently renewed his contract.

"He is happy, the club is satisfied and hence, there are no reasons to consider Vucinic away from Roma.

"The club has never told me anything regarding any offers, but they did tell me they want to keep all the important players and Vucinic is one of them."

Bayern Munich striker Luca Toni has revealed that he will stay at the Bavarian club having weighed up his options across Europe. The Italian hitman had been linked with several Italian sides as well as Tottenham Hotspur, but it now appears that the partnership forged with Chelsea and Manchester United target Franck Ribery could yet run another season.

"There are always important requests from Italian clubs and there will always will be," Toni told Bild.

"However, I am not thinking about changing team. I find myself really well here in Munich and Bayern has everything I desire.

"They have good prospects of winning the league and Champions League and I think we can do it with such a strong team.

"I will train even harder and show that I can still give my best."

    ?

Toni is all kinds of awesome in ways that none of our current strikeforce are. Sure, he's often wasteful (amongst other things) but he's a god-damn menace in the box for set pieces and crosses.

Tottenham target goalkeepers as transfer window opens

Tottenham have been linked with two up-and-coming goalkeepers as cover for Heurelho Gomes.

Scott Loach, whose errors contributed to England’s 4-0 defeat in the Uefa Under-21 final defeat by Germany, is regarded as a potential first-choice for the future at White Hart Lane.

And Eldin Jakupovic, the Lokomotiv Moscow and Switzerland goalkeeper, has also been linked with a move to Spurs.

Harry Redknapp is rumoured to be prepared to spend £6 million for Loach, a fee that could not be ignored by impoverished Watford.

The Nottingham-born goalkeeper began with Ipswich Town’s academy before spending time with Southwell United and Lincoln City, who he joined at the age of 15.

During his time at Lincoln he had work experience at Bourne Town, Radcliffe Olympic, Boston Town, Spalding, Stamford and Lincoln United. He joined Watford in 2006 for £50,000 and has made 31 appearances.

Jakupovic is owned by Lokomotiv Moscow but spent all of last season on loan in his native country at Grasshopper Zurich, where he started his career.

The 6 ft 3in keeper is valued at around £1.7m as he is is contracted to the Russian club only until the end of the Russian 2010 season.

Gomes was under pressure when Redknapp arrived at Spurs. The manager even signed Carlo Cudicini, from Chelsea, but Gomes’ rise in confidence meant that the Italian spent most of the season on the bench.

With Cudicini 36 in September, Redknapp is looking to recruit a younger goalkeeper and Loach, still only 21, and Jakupovic, 24, fit that bill.

Tottenham Hotspur have apparently taken an early lead in the Premier League auction for Stewart Downing.

The 24-year-old winger is looking for a move from Middlesbrough, who were relegated last season, and, according to The People, Spurs have made the best offer yet, reported to be £8 million.

However, Boro are still holding out for a higher offer, and that is still a distinct possibility with Liverpool, Wigan Athletic and Aston Villa all interested.

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp tried to sign Downing twice in January, but the offers were rejected, despite the player's willingness to move.

Downing has racked up 180 appearances for Middlesbrough, while also appearing for England on 23 occasions.

We're seriously coping with injuries, I seriously doubt Harry would want to add more to the ranks. If we do get Downing, my guess is AFTER he recovers not before.

If you think about it, it could be a better deal for all parties to be concluded before he is recovered.  Obviously the medical would be stringent, and we would have to be certain of his recovery.

But, Boro will want money for squad building, and they will want players in and now - not at the very death of the window.

The same applies for us, but equally we can take him, settle him now - but pay less considering his injury - we would be in a stronger bargaining position
