Does anyone know what the 20m runoff that FIFA requires the stadium to hold WC qualifiers means?  I am assuming it can't mean the distance between the pitch and the stands.

I'd imagine it probably does, in which case I'd rather not have them.

One thing we can all agree on is that Levy will get us a good deal on all the financing etc. He has stated many times that it wont affect our transfer budget and on finances at least he is generally pretty hot property.

don't think we will be, the club have already said the new stands will be closer to the pitch than any other new build stadium by several meters

this needs fixing before we build a single brick.

  •  03-30-2009, 19:43 616451 in reply to 616426

Ive got a copy of the plans for the training ground at work. That will be smart, and top spec.

I shoudl shortly get copies of the formal plans for teh stadium too so will share what I can.

By the way, we (my work) estimate the build cost to be nearer £200M and are looking at taking a stake in the development (I cant say anymore).

LOL at the top picture on first page,it looks like the stadium is in Portugal or Spain with all those white buildings instead of the dingy places that really surround WHL and that blue sky above wow?

yes, the 20m refers to the space between the stands and the pitch - like at the Emirates.

the chaps on COYS were saying that Levy wasn't bothering with the FIFA regs (as he wasn't too bothered about hosting one England friendly every 3 years) so that he can keep the seats close to the pitch.

that's a great thing imo, but why FIFA need 20m i don't know...!

its probably like UEFA wanting its adverts not near fans in the champions league.. the first few rows can be covered in order to make the advertising stand out.

There is no way there is 66ft each side between the pitch and the stands at the Effeminates, that sounds very incorrect to me.

I think the 20m thing is by the IOC for a running track, other wise that makes no sense.

20m between the pitch and stands??  Looks more like 20 - 25ft to me.

yeah, you're right... maybe it's 20m at the ends of the pitch, rather than the side?

I dunno mate, it still looks less than 66ft to me Wink

Here's Shaktar Donetsk's new stadium as a comparison, that gap looks pretty similar.

maybe i was just trying to gooner-bash!

anyway... from Jo Spur on COYS...

'Found out some info about the new stadium, thought you might be interested:

Closest comparison is the Allianz Arena for the inside.

The seats are going to be close to the pitch and at a relatively steep angle, particularly the East Stand due to the road.

As we're not going for the highest Fifa standard, we don't need to have the 20m run off that the Emirates or Wembley has. It will mean we can't hold international qualifiers but we would be able to hold European finals as it would meet all UEFA standards.

The capacity will be slightly less than the Emirates but not by much.'

but i make you right, it doesn't look like 20m??

either way, as long as we're as close as we are now, then i'll be happy!

It isn't 20m mate and from what I have read the 'run off' is the 'safety run off' that athletes require at the end of a track after running the 100m or 110m hurdles for instance.  For comparative purposes 20m = 22 yards.  The pitch at WHL is 110 x 73 yards.  Therefore the run off is almost a fifth of the length of the pitch.

I doubt that England will be holding any home friendlies anywhere other than Wembley in the future. They have to pay for the stadium by using it as often as they can - especially since even the less glamorous friendlies seem to sell out 85,000+.

FIFA requirements would only come into the reckoning if the new WHL was proposed as a potential World Cup finals venue.

And FIFA's requirements (unless they have changed since Germany) were fine with the Allianz Arena and they have a small gap between the pitch and the stand:-

    (Warning, truly HUGE picture!) http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/4/4e/Allianz_Arena_Playing_field_panorama.jpg

You're right with Wembley though, I can't imagine England playing away from there for some time.

Still don't get how we're going to fill it or fund it without massively impacting on our transfer policy of blowing huge amounts of money on the latest player who's in form but I'll probably go check out the exhibition anyway.

You have no idea of how many people are there waiting to get a ticket for White Hart Lane. Even in these dire days of economic downturns and unexciting mid-table football there are no tickets available. Not even against West Brom.

I don't even dare to think how hopeless it will be when the team is just remotely near the top of the table.

But at the same time, we didn't even sell out the league cup semi final against Burnley, or many (any?) of our European matches.

A key issue is that we have a heavily ageing fanbase.  So although things look good at present, in 20 years time all the little kids who all support Chelsea and Arsenal will be buying season tickets at Stamford Bridge and the Emirates...we need to ensure that we look after (and become a more attractive prospect for) young Tottenham fans - otherwise we'll be left behind.

You know, I'm going to disagree with that comment a bit.

Obviously I can't speak for all areas of the country, but down here in Sussex, we seem to have a hardcore (and increasing) number of kids wearing Spurs shirts.

I would guess that kids supporting us now will go on to become regular supporters far more than the glory-hunting kids wearing Chelsea and man utd kits now. I mean, what success have they had to follow compared to the Sky 4, and yet they still persist in following a "non-fashionable" team.

personally, I'm pretty confident about the future.

For those wondering about how we would fill 60k.

The goons breakdown is something like:

    2.5 - 3k away fans.

    12k corporate.

    45k home fans.

Now assuming we sell 40k season tickets (which we will) that leaves around 5k for general sale. I can't see why this will not be possible.

I think we'll have to reduce our prices in order to sell anywhere close to 40k season tickets.
