In my view, Zaha is a slightly better and way more expensive Townsend.

Its a chicken and egg thing.

As Legohamster says, in a better team its probably unfair to assume he would be selfish and not pass.

Ive noted a number of times, he breaks the lines now, looks up - and has nothing.

At Spurs? Kane in the box, Son running through, Eriksen in space...

Not only does he have more options, but because of the threat of those players he has more space as well.

Or, if he does suck half the defense to him (as he often does) Kane and co would be tinkling themselves.

I think Zaha is easily twice the player Townsend will ever be.

A full level above. Saw Zaha in the flesh at Wembley 2017/2018. Head and shoulders their best player. Felt nervy every time he had the ball.

He does operate in Son's area of the pitch but I'm a fan of us getting high quality additions.

The financials here make this a non runner. He's a 45-50mil player IMO. The 80mil price tag will rule him out for almost everyone else except uber rich and somewhat desperate clubs.

Its purely theoretical, I think Zahas contract and Palaces valuation effectively nullify any chance of getting him.

That being said, while Ill happily talk about Zaha specifically, Im really happy just with the concept of him. Were we to get another player with similar attributes, Id be just as happy.

Zaha generally plays off of the left, Sons side of town. But we have also seen Son move up front and centrally to really good effect.

Equally Zaha can play all across the front line.

For me it would work in that way that teams simply have no idea who is picking up who and where - and consequently we would find players with space all over.

We play a very fluid front line anyway, so I dont see any real issue with the idea of Zaha stepping on peoples toes.

And thats before the other side of it - imagine having him on the bench. Son is having an off day on the field, what a substitution to be able to make...

Entirely. And that's how teams are successful imo. By having players 12,13,14,15,16 who are just as effective as 1-11. I must admit though, I'd like a Son/Zaha type off the other side (left footed). Maybe Erik will come good for a whole year but even he is a little deeper.

If Palace were to look at a lower price and maybe a player or two (Onomah, CCV, K'Koudou) the deal suddenly looks more realistic, won't happen though.

Why would they look at that though as you say

Is like selling a rolls Royce and being given 3 focus’s as part of the deal

Not as good as Son or Moura ( imo).

For GHod's sake... let's not go there again!!

I understand opinions are part and parcel of football but if i said Walker Peters is a better header of the ball than Harry Kane you would send me to an optician. This myth is frankly ridiculous. Son and Moura can shift the ball very effectively when they are running at pace - as the latter showed in his goal against Inter. However this is only effective in a one-vs-one situation. They do not have the skill set to attack a packed defence as brilliantly summarised by @nayimfromthehalfwayline :

Agree with this on GKN mate, flashes of quality like his penalty yesterday and I have also seen him deliver 1 or 2 crosses from the left that are right on the money. He hasn't played enough games for me to form an objective assessment of his ability. But there is definitely something to like about this player.

I agree with your valuation. Zaha wants to leave and there aren't any big clubs in for him. Everton are meant to be willing to go to £65m but we might be able to undercut that if he refuses to join anyone else. It all tests on how desperate Palace are to sell him and how awkward he is prepared to be.

What makes you think Zaha wants to leave? I've only seen the quotes via his brother saying he wanted to join Arsenal

I don't think he actively wants to leave, rather he is up for a move if it takes him up I'm the world

Obviously, low balling won't work if he doesn't want to leave or Palace don't need to sell. I don't see any sense in signing him for anything close to the asking price.

Agreed but never seems to get a look in - the cross against Fulham was superb.

Everton have put together a £100m package to sign Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha, 26, involving Turkey forward Cenk Tosun and Republic of Ireland midfielder James McCarthy, both 28. (Sun)

Ivory Coast international Zaha expects to be at Everton by the end of this transfer window, and Palace will accept a bid of £65m. (Independent)

Palace supporting mate is worried this will go through, though Im not sure why it would to be honest.

And Im still trying to work out why Zaha would want to go to Everton.

If we could do a player package with them it would mean they give up less of the fee to United, of course only attractive if Hodgson thinks he could use / develop the player and they are a fair value.
Personally I’d offer them 60m for Alex McCarthy and let them chuck Zaha in on a free...
