Victor Wanyama

They attack with speed. We rarely do.

Its not even the speed, its the fact they make forward runs and forward passes at every opportunity.

Look at the first goal, Jesus poking it in from a Walker ball.

Ball is picked up in midfield, there is a very predictable square ball on to Walker. 95% of the time watching football that is the pass that is made.

Instead the ball is played forward to Mahrez in the inside right position. Which is the ball Im usually screaming to be played and frustrated when it isnt.

As soon as Mahrez has the ball Walker is on his toes and the rest is elementary.

They make it look so simple but it stems from that fundamental difference - the forward pass at every opportunity.

Forward passes are obvious. The intelligent ones draws/commits players to result in an immediate advantage which can be followed up immediately to exploit the situation. Watch dombele, he does this all the time.

While forward passes are obvious, they just arent utilised enough by any team bar City.

Like I say, with that goal situation,19 other teams would have just seen the square pass out to Walker, then him to Mahrez, then maybe out to Walker on the over lap by which time the opposition are set defensively and ready to deal with it.

We do that all the time, and Im screaming at the TV to make the obvious forward pass instead.

Thats the fundamental, and critical difference with City, IMO.

The ball went forward, went forward, goal. They make it look easy. And lets be honest, its not complicated is it?

They make runs forward all the time so whoever has the ball has passes to make.

They pass forward at every opportunity regardless.

Hmmm. The fact only City ‘utilise forward passes’ should tell you...that it’s not just a case of passing forward. If it was everyone would be ‘passing forward’.

Coordinated movement, being able to make space by stepping or dribbling away from the press, knowing where you team mates will be without looking, are all part of what allow city to pass through teams.

You’ll see a city player running who is expecting a pass after the next pass. For example they can see the ball out wide will come - it’s been practiced and coordinated - and they are moving for the pass after that into the centre. It’s hard to defend against that kind of preemptive movement.

If he gets fully fit and back to his best could you imagine a midfield 3 of Sissy Wanyama and Ndombele away to City .
I started to. But after the initial laughter had quickly subsided, the fear set in at the realisation of the distinct possibility of a British record defeat and 90 minutes of watching through my fingers hiding behind the sofa.

He's something like 6th choice in CM now and with dodgy knees so would happy take less than we paid for him...

There is no way he will pass a medical anywhere unless it one of those ones rushed through in the final hours of the window

Would be a great bonus re being able to make signings over the next 2 windows to get his and nkoudou's wages and overseas places permanently shifted this week

Yes, was thinking the same. Neither are likely to see much meaningful football at all over the next 6-12 months with us either
