The Youth Players/On-Loan Thread 2019/20

The change in loan policy to the football league a few years ago hasn’t helped. Being able to send a player for 1-3 months was useful. You could get them a few games of senior football to see where they were and give them a different test. Whereas now you’d have to loan them out for 4 + months.
Troy Parrot would be the prime example of someone who a one month loan down in league one would be useful. We wouldn’t want to lose him for half a season. But a one month loan would be a benefit.
I’m pretty sure players like caulker, Kane, Townsend, Carroll all at one point had a short term loan.

Maybe we’re rethinking our previous loan policy (of not doing loans at all and leaving youth players to play 6 u23 games a year then wondering why they aren’t developing!)

Poch hinted as much last season

Cambridge beat 10-man Sclamhorpe 3-2 in League Two.

The U's played with a numerical advantage from the 21st minute, so Roles had a nice easy start

I think this ties into what Poch said a while back about the level of our team.

It is now at a point where only the exceptional can break through, things have changed.

So to see us offering our players development loans makes a degree of sense IMO.

Basically, the youth have now got our preseason tour to really impress Poch, otherwise it's a loan move and let's have another look next year.

Hope they both lose, the ungrateful bastards.

Have to say its looking pretty worrying for Clarke in regard to his loan. First he was on the bench for the two games and did not get used. Now he is not even on the bench. This 5 loan player rule is messing things up. But if this continues you have to wonder what we paid 10m for. We would need to get him out of there and loan him to another team that might use him.
