Some big Scots brute will cut him down to size soon enough; expect a broken ankle or ruptured knee ligaments within a month!

The Alloa defender who Oduwa attempted the flick against has thrown his toys out of the pram. Obviously not a fan of the beautiful game :D

"Leading 5-1, the Gers sub – who has joined the club from Spurs – was accused by Hamilton of “taking the p***” as he showboated.

Hamilton moaned: “He’s come up here and he’s trying to show off, trying to make a name for himself.

“I didn’t even get the chance to speak to him after the game as he just walked off, but I’m sure there are others in the league that if he tries that against them they maybe won’t let him away with it the same way.

“I felt as if he was trying to take the p***. What was there, a minute to go? Was there really any need for it?

“The Rangers fans were behind that goal and he was trying to make a name with them by trying a wee trick when his side were 5-1 up.”

Hamilton needs to grow some balls himself - he's only 23 acting like an experienced head, useless count.

You're clearly brick, in a brick team*, playing in a brick league* and dissing a kid who's on loan and who is putting you in your rightful place. Stop being a pussy and crying to the media...

*just suits my argument and I have no experience of it/them.

Oh an it's called the Ardiles mofo!!! It's in his blood!

Ah, on another note. I remember doing that on a holiday in Lincoln(brick) against a bunch of Manchester lads... right over his head and a goal through the keepers legs. He (who was older than me) took it in good humour at least. Shame we didn't have camera phones then :(

Don't man, don't... it was many moons ago and not in my hands. Skegness was the only holiday I've taken on these isles - the small dead starfish (plural) on the beach were the highlight (apart from my Ardiles haha)

Yep, that's Nya Kirby, he also won the player of the tournament award. I think we'll be hearing much more about him in a few years time, I expect he'll appear for the u18s at some point this season.

I'm probably alone in my thoughts that it shows a total lack of respect for your opponent when you try those type of tricks. If you want to show how good you are score or set up goals.

He did set up two goals (albeit that one was ruled out for offside). And I think the point is that, in this instance, he was trying to beat his man by any means possible. He was trying to create yet another scoring opportunity for his team. If, on this occasion, it meant by means of a rainbow flick, then why the hell not? It wasn't showboating merely for the sake of it.

On the one hand, we are crying out for characters in the game, to have our breath taken away by outrageous feats of skill and to be entertained. And on the other, we tut and shake our heads and generally act like curmudgeonly old men when we get given exactly what we asked for.

Lack of respect? Bollox to the pompous, self important Alloa player, I say. It's no more disrespectful than a Cruyff turn or a step over. It's joie de vivre; a love of the game; the antithesis of robotic football by the numbers.

More of where that came from, I say. Not less.

Mark Warburton has given a passionate defence of Rangers loan signing Nathan Oduwa after he was accused of showing a lack of respect in the Ibrox team’s 5-1 win over Alloa on Sunday.

The 19-year-old, borrowed for the rest of the season from Tottenham, attempted an audacious ‘rainbow flick’ during an exciting cameo as a substitute in the closing stages of the game.

While it only worked to an extent, the player he tried it against - Alloa defender Colin Hamilton - was far from happy with it and accused Oduwa of trying to show off.

As well as saying he was disappointed by the Englishman’s actions, he also suggested other players might not let him away with it if he tried it again.

By contrast, Alloa’s manager Danny Lennon recognised Oduwa’s talent and said he should be encouraged to display the skills he has.

Hamilton’s comments made back page headlines in many Scottish newspapers on Monday morning, something which Warburton admitted he found “quite incredible” when he saw them.

Nathan Oduwa smiles after Rangers' commanding 5-1 win over Alloa in the Scottish Championship

“I just wonder what the media reaction would be and the fans’ reaction if a foreign player did that," said the former Brenford boss. "If Lionel Messi came in and did that, what would be the reaction?

“He (Oduwa) is a young guy and he came on, a smile on his face with loads of talent, keen to impress and play well. He made a difference when he came on. He has got so much talent.

“There’s no lack of respect. Just applaud him for it and I think their manager made some very sensible comments in that he has got talent, is an entertainer and fans want to be entertained.

Nathan Oduwa (right) impressed during his short second-half appearance against Alloa on his Rangers debut

“I would encourage him. We spoke to him before the game about areas of the park in which he could work, areas of the park you have to secure and areas of the park you have to track back.

“If you remember, he ran back 40 yards and got a foul deep in our own half. He came inside left and right, worked inside and outside.

“He was told to take risks in the right areas, which he did. He impacted on the game. As a sub, he came on and had a really good impact.

“I’m delighted for him and the poor guy woke up this morning and saw the back page headlines, which I find quite incredible.”

Rangers' Nathan Oduwa upset Alloa defender Colin Hamilton with some fancy footwork

Warburton refused to set Oduwa on a level higher than his opponents but is looking forward to seeing how much he contributes as Rangers bid to win the Championship and promotion.

He added: “That would be disrespectful to say that but he’s a talented player, he has attributes and we have to utilise those talents as best we can. That’s our job.

“He has come here to play football, as have all the guys in our squad. It’s a tight, lean squad but he comes with something new.

“He comes from a great academy upbringing, a great education at Spurs, and likewise Dom Ball. We’re looking forward to utilising them and they’ll have a big impact in the season ahead.”

I wonder whether Mr Warburton might be the manager of Spurs at some point in the future?

Surprisingly not many cheers when Chadli and Lamela gave the ball away doing exactly what we asked for on Saturday.
I'll be looking forward to the rapturous applause should Mr Wheelchair do it against us then, from all the lovers of the beautiful game.

    Ha!

But that isn't really the point, mate. The point is that, even if I don't want to see other team's players (especially that team's players) pull off outrageous feats of skill against us, I'm not going to pompously whinge about them showing disrespect if they do.
