Yup, and only de Bruyne has created more chances this season... not too shabby for a Peaky Blinder playing for a Championship club!

    Mourinho ruling out Fernandes

Or Levy already has him well trained in the art of negotiation and setting expectations.

I think it's more he doesn't fit or make sense for us. Jose is going to play Dele off Kane. He has already said he wants a balance of a passer and a DM in cm.

With Ndombele and Lo Celso who can conceivably play either the Dele role or the passing CM Fernandes doesn't have an obviously available slot to play in. For the same reason in doubt he will have any interest in Dybala.

Im not too sure of the old style player descriptions but couldn't he be classed as a 'no.8'?

He's an 8 or a 10, but we have Ndombele, Winks and possibly Lo Celso for the 8 and Dele taking the 10 space (although he's not a traditional no10). So I can see why Jose wouldn't be too interested, it's one player to many for positions we are quite stocked in now.

Agreed. Already seem a bit over stocked if anything unless Lo Celso is given a run in a wide role.

Definitely other areas that would benefit more from us spending that kind of money.

But he is potentially a great player for us if we was to buy him and again he can play two positions as you say

Potentially great in positions where we have one player that is already great and two players who are also potentially great.

Meanwhile we have a right back who is largely inconsistent, no target man backup for Kane, two centre backs on contracts that are running out (hopefully that will get sorted), only two attacking players with blistering pace and a situation where one injury at left back means playing our (imo) best centre back as a left back.

Add to that a limited budget for fees and wages as always, limited places in our squad for players that aren't home grown until players start shipping out. I just don't see it.

Exclusive: Spurs set sights on signing PL centre-back in January, £25m will seal deal
    By
    Pete O'Rourke3rd December 2019 at 6:00pm

Tottenham have set their sights on signing Norwich City centre-back Ben Godfrey in the January window, Football Insider can reveal.

The Londoners made enquiries about Godfrey early in the summer window before he penned a new five-year deal in June.

A Tottenham source has told Football Insider that the club are continuing to keep close tabs on Godfrey, 21, and he is firmly on their radar ahead of the upcoming window.

There is set to be plenty of competition for the England Under-21 international, who is valued at £20-£25million by Norwich.

Spurs have looked at home-grown solutions to their need for a new centre-back as they assess defenders with the potential to replace senior duo Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen.

Godfrey, who joined Norwich from York City in 2016, established himself as a key member of Daniel Farke’s side as they stormed to the Championship title in the last campaign and his stature has continued to grow in this campaign.

He made 31 league appearances season, including 26 consecutive starts in defence after breaking into the side in December.

The youngster’s price tag soared beyond the £10million mark at the end of last season but his value has continued to rocket following his strong start in the Premier League.

He has played the full 90 minutes of all 14 of Norwich’s fixtures in the competition, as well as one in the League Cup.

Lyon to offer Depay new contract
Lyon will offer Memphis Depay a new contract, president Jean Michel Aulas has confirmed.

Dutch winger Depay has been linked with a return to Manchester United as well as Liverpool and Tottenham.

“We will make him a contract extension offer because he is an exceptional player,” Aulas told BeIN Sports. “He will be the one who will ultimately decide. He is a sweet boy, an interesting man.”

Everton are moving to tie down defender Lucas Digne amid interest from Tottenham.

The Toffees have already agreed fresh terms with Richarlison and now want Digne to put pen to paper.

Spanish newspaper AS have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur still remain an option in the January transfer window for Barcelona outcast Carles Alena, despite Mauricio Pochettino leaving the club and Jose Mourinho coming in.

Alena, 21, was linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur earlier this season while Pochettino was still in charge. It is believed Pochettino is a big fan of Alena – but his exit has since seen no reports linking Alena to Spurs, until now.

The latest report claims that while Spurs remain an option for Alena in the January window, the Spain Under-21 international still has multiple offers on the table. One thing that is clear, though, is that he is desperate to leave Barcelona.

Depsite shining for Ernesto Valverde’s side in pre-season, midfielder Alena has been afforded just 45 minutes of senior action all season – last playing Athletic Bilbao on the opening day of the season for 45 minutes.

It remains to be seen what his asking price is, given that he has a contract at Barca until 2022 and is considered a ‘great hope’ from the La Masia academy. It is claimed a loan move may be favoured by Barca.

TBR’s view – Alena a top player, but do Spurs need him?
There is no doubt that the Spaniard is a top, top player. He has all the technical qualities expected of a La Masia graduate and has played 35 times for Barca’s senior side. You have to be a proper talent to do that.

But Spurs are well stocked in midfield, and if Mourinho is to be given a limited budget in January, overlooking Alena is the best option. Tottenham boast Eric Dier, Harry Winks, Moussa Sissoko, Tanguy Ndombele, Victor Wanyama and Oliver Skipp.

Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli can also come deep. Spurs’ priorities should be full-backs, a goalkeeper and a back-up striker to Harry Kane. A midfielder, right now, is way down the priority list.

But speaking to BT Sport, Bale believes success could be close for his former side and praised the club's ambition in appointing Mourinho.

"Having [Jose] Mourinho there is an amazing statement from the club, I think he's a serial winner," he said.

"Tottenham want to win trophies and I don't think there's a better partnership than Mourinho and Tottenham together to try and win some trophies."

Que the Bale to Spurs rumours to come up again...
