Politics, politics, politics

Yet Corbyn, during peak Corbyn, was only able to scrape a better result than Gordon Brown did - universally regarded as one of the least competent PMs we've ever had.

As bad as May is (and she is fudging useless) a May campaign run by Lynton Crosby would look very different to one run by a couple of her mates.

Crosby was on the campaign -- he also orchestrated Zac Goldsmith's campaign to be Mayor of London, a complete disaster. Whatever Crosby had, it's over. All he offers is poison and that didn't work against Corbyn, else the Tories would have got a big majority instead of losing their small one.

If Corbyn was as unelectable as you think he is, the Tories would call an election tomorrow, giving Sir Lynton the go ahead, and actually form a government with a working majority that could pass legislation from the election manifesto. The won't do this because they know they would lose that election and no longer be in government.

Corbyn's Labour didn't peak at the general election, as the subsequent polling shows. They are getting more popular.

He wasn't nearly involved enough. Brought on as an injury time sub IIRC.

It doesn't even have to be Crosby, just a professional who knows how to run a campaign.

They've only just called an election, there's no way they can do that within 3-4 years now.

I wouldn't put too much stock in opinion polls run in a dead period of government. They're the same as by-elections - anyone but the government.

That said, there was an interesting article in the Spectator the other day. It suggested that the fools who are voting for Corbyn need to see 4-5 years of a socialist government to properly understand what they're voting for. It's been so long since the country did something that stupid, people have forgotten the reality.

Trouble is, it would take the country a decade or two to recover from a term of someone like Corbyn in government.

@scaramanga you sound tired -- I don't think you really even believe most of that post, do you? Come on :)

If the Tories thought they'd get a big majority, they'd call an election ASAP. Oh, it doesn't have to be Crosby now that I have reminded you of Zac Goldsmith's horrendous campaign? hahaha

I hope the Tory Party see things exactly as you do. Keep May for as long as they can, get Lynton on the job for the next election. The poll lead will grow and grow, it might end up like '97 but with a real left-winger in charge instead of a pretend one. Marvellous!

The longer May is there, the better Corbyn looks to the electorate. The Tories are an utter disaster, led by someone who has managed to take a 20 point poll lead and turn that into a lost majority, and subsequently an average 3 point poll deficit. That they stick with her shows the weakness of the Tory party, nobody wants the job!

Nobody wants the job till Brexit is done. Then the new person gets a couple of years of creating the brave new world before the 2022 election, rather than being the person putting the old one out of its misery.

The SNP are going even further left than Corbyn

Was his campaign really that bad? I didn't pay much attention because I don't like the guy. Not sure why, he's a reliable vote for most things I believe in politically but I've never warned to him.

Oh, and yes I am quite tired.

I've not slept much this week because I'm in the process of making 25 people redundant due to comrade Osborne's (3 times the) living wage.

It's weird.
I nearly voted leave simply because I wanted to see the shakeup of the Tory's and general Political system......

......it's kind of fun.

Yeah it was terrible - racist, hateful, fearful, closed and arrogant. In tone it was quite similar to May's general election one (though with no racism there)

Project fear worked very well in the Scottish referendum and 2015 general election. But it had really worn thin/jumped the shark by the time of the EU referendum and the 2017 general election. I think there's a real appetite now for hope, which Corbyn has really plugged into and Johnson knows how to hit too.

Well the Spectator would write that wouldn't they? So what? The Spectator is universally recognised as a right wing rag, completely devoid of any credibility...universally!

So who is going to do the work of those 25 workers then?
A large chunk of it will be done in central Europe, along with some increased automation that wasn't on the table until the wage increases.

The market accepted the first one, we took the hit of the next but the rest will kill us off if we don't reduce staff significantly or move it overseas.

Well if you spent less time on here a couple of those jobs could well be saved. :D
