Mousa Dembele

Had to search half way down page 3 to find the Mousa thread.

From Poch's press conference today, Mousa has been playing through pain with a foot injury (hence not being able to start the last run of games) and will be seeing a specialist at the end of the season.

Doesn't fit the poch "can't play dembele more than two games a week and is dependable" agenda ... some one is telling porkies

That works perfectly with the emergence of Winks as his successor

I like what I've seen from Winks this season but he's so far behind being a replacement for Dembele. Dembele's strength can't be coached. Even his way of making space for himself is so unlike any other player I doubt that knowledge can be passed on either.

Here's hoping Winks continues with his progress after injury and goes some way to emulating Dembele but I can't help but think it's an unfair ask of the young lad.

We don't necessarily need a Dembele type player in that role. A passer works as well as a dribbler. Remember it was Modric's position a few years' ago, and Winks is very much in his mould.

I agree Dembele has a few more years in him (hopefully). But he can be covered. I believe a combination of Winks (really liked what I saw this season), and a fit and focused Sissoko could do it. Now I know that sounds odd bearing in mind the season Sissoko has had, but he played a similar ball carrying role at Saudi Sportswashing Machine and I believe that why Poch bought him in the first place. Of course it depends if he stays.

Disagree one of the reasons we had such a good season was because of the solidity provided by wanyama and dembele. In certain games it would be useful to have winks but where we need to dig in we need to have the two holding.

We'd still have Dier for that.

Winks' defensive game looks decent, he's certainly a tough one. He could develop into an Ardiles or Modric in that sense (although I think he's already quite a bit bigger than those two)

I think this has been the case for the past two seasons anyway. He's almost never played twice a week, but that was always supposedly because of his hip condition.
