Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin wants to join Tottenham ahead of neighbours Arsenal.

Arsene Wenger is a confirmed admirer of the 24-year-old France international and Arsenal have opened discussions over a proposed move to bring him to The Emirates - but Schneiderlin wants to re-join former boss Mauricio Pochettino instead.

Schneiderlin rates the Argentine highly and credits him with developing his game last season, which culminated in his selection for the World Cup.

Arsenal have interest in Real Madrid's Sami Khedira, Lars Bender of Bayer Leverkusen and William Carvalho of Sporting Lisbon but Schneiderlin was considered the easier option and arguably better value at around £16m.
Schneiderlin joined Southampton from Arsene Wenger's former club Strasbourg for just £1.2million in 2008 and has since made over 200 appearances, earning plaudits for his work-rate, high tackle count and interceptions.
He is contracted until 2017 but is ready to join the Southampton exodus once a fee is agreed.
However, rather than Arsenal it is Tottenham he is favouring as Pochettino looks to add to his first signings of Ben Davies and Michel Vorm from Swansea.

if we make one signing this year it needs to be this guy.

seriously tho this is paper talk. do we start threads for every name mentioned in the paper?

When can we start a thread then? When they've signed? I'm surprised a thread on Schneiderlin wasn't made the other day when he started following Spurs on twitter.

Not just paper talk.. he followed the official Tottenham twitter account 2 days ago then unfollowed.

This isn't just a random name. It's a player who blossomed under our new manager. It's quite probable that they would both like to reunite at Spurs.

Furthermore, this isn't an isolated story. There have been persistent stories over the past few weeks of our interest in Schneiderlin and his interest in leaving Southampton, possibly to join Spurs.

So yes, it's well worth its own thread.

Doubt Southampton will let Lallana and him leave in the same transfer window unless we offer mega smakerooneys

This is surely too good to be true?! Loving it for now; Gooner mates are REALLY getting wound up by this story, calling Schneiderlin all sorts of names lol

Make it happen Levy; please [-o<

The Pochettino link makes it seem at least somewhat likely that it could be true.

Agreed as you say that convincing Southampton to sell might be tough, but they have a new manager that might feel like spending some cash and getting his own players in.

Would love to believe it mate but realistically he would choose Arsenal over us at the moment and they have the funds to afford him.

Maybe it's another situation like Davies; at the scum he is not guaranteed first team footie and will have to compete with Arteta, Ramsey, etc. He will be Poch's first name on the team sheet and he's still young enough to move to a CL if we don't break into top 4.

As for the money, I would think we will compete; just look at the salary they offered Remy...

I wouldn't fear any team if we had Schneiderlin and Sandro as a pair. They would run through Khedira/Arteta, and Yaya/Ferandinho. Statistically the 2 highest tackling/intercepting midfielders over the past 2 seasons. Sandro sitting in front of the back 4, Schneiderlin with licence to exert his box to box and creative qualities supporting Paulinho, Eriksen, Lamela and Adebayor.

Still just a fantasy however. Paper talk is just that

I certainly hope so; buying Schneiderlin would be the shot in the arm to the new coaching regime would need to REALLY stamp their game our squad

It does worry me that there were no quotes at all; then again sometimes the articles that are looked upon in the future as being spot on in retrospect often don't have quotes..[-o<
