.... actually, pretty much all of our team is young prospects we've helped nurture or talented players that the big boys didn't take to.

Have there been any legitimate links to Deligt at all?

Seems to me that we're taking about a wage and transfer range we're not going to be shopping at.

Would love us to just whack out a massive amount for him and say this guy is going to lead our defence for the next 5-10 years and then build the spine off us.

No, I think we are well out of the running. Joachim Andersen is the defender we have been linked with, but if Alderweireld decides to see out the last year of his contract then there would be no room on the wage bill for him.

Barcelona decided that enough was enough when they saw that the overall sum to bring in De Ligt would surpass 200 million euros. The estimated transfer with Ajax would cost 75m euros plus add-ons, and the centre-back would sign a five-year contract. Having asked for 12m euros net per year, it would cost the club 120m euros in that period just for his salary.

Between the transfer fee and his wages, the overall deal would cost more than 200m, and that is forgetting one last expense: Mino Raiola's 20 percent commission from the transfer fee.

Barcelona stood up and said no. They were not willing to make that expense for a 19-year-old, and it would have completely unbalanced the club's wage structure.

Apparently he chose Juventus because the French league isn't competitive enough and ManU can't offer CL football.

And he can learn the dark arts and how to defend, from people like Bonnuci & Chiellini. At Utd Jones could only teach him how to pull stupid faces.

Looks like Juve are trying to build their own version of the galacticos, with Aaron Ramsay being the outlier of course.

If that is the price then we should be all over it Although I imagine it's heavily incentivised for his agent. Juve probably a pretty attractive option for De Ligt too.

Based on rumours I don't think we could or should be all over his wage demands.

Sad but true. With ticket prices, broadcasting rights and merchandising soaring, the money will end up in someone's pocket either way. At least the agents are quite open about that they're borderline mafia money-type leeches (in that they're paid just for existing).

And where does the money comes from? From us, who consume the game. So if we don't like the fotball of today, we can easily stop consuming it. Then then the money will dissapear in notime.

Probably because there is also a £20 million payment to be made to the agent on top of that.
