Long range goals - dont get the hype.

Like Rooney's last night. Good but not great.
Seen far better goals scored in normal play IMHO

I think they're difficult, which is why they're really rare. If it's result of a stunning shot rather than a goalkeeper error it's even more rare.

I just googled Rooney goal West Ham and this came up, which I'd argue was a better goal:

Last nights goal was a sweet finish and nice and everything, but it was an open goal because Hart had just fudged up.

I love long range goals, maybe exactly because they're quite rare. You don't expect a long range shot to go in, so once it does, the element of surprise makes it even more enjoyable.

Many to choose from. I love 'em. :D

there's levels, I thought Rooney's was good last night as he had to drill it, a loft might have given defenders time to get back, obviously hart not being there helped massively but it wasn't just a case of hitting the target

Long range goals - dont get the hype.

What if it’s scored by Nayim? You can’t get enough hype for that.

The greatness of the long range goal is really the wow factor, the unexpected outcome, its rarety. Sometimes it is speculative. Sometime it is more deliberate. Rooney last night knew what he was doing and it was an absolute peach of a shot for which he deserves big credit.
Robinson’s goal for us against Watford falls into the speculative or got-lucky category, but worthy of hype because it was a goalkeeper goal.
But yes, there are lots of technically better goals that are scored.
But nonetheless, I would love to see Harry score a goal from the half way line.

Always loved David Bentley's long-range lob in the 4-4 draw that dramatically initiated the Redknapp era.

Not only did he mean to do it, the team had been coached by Clive Allen to look for the opportunity as the goalie often liked to get too far forward. Preparation meets opportunity. Result.

I don't think you like football if you dont love a good long range goal!

I just personally don't think the "long ranger" is the 'be all and end all' by any mean. Prefer the likes of the first Lindegaard goal today more than the Rooney 'Hopeful hit'. Just my personal choice.
