Kevin Wimmer

If we have any sense we'll delay this deal a bit, not only til the Sanchez deal is wrapped up but also after the Coutinho deal. If Liverpool do sell him to Barca for the best part of £100m, then Southampton could be about to receive a punchy offer for Van Dijk, which would obviously leave them needing a CB and plenty of cash to buy one with.....

Article I just saw said £15m rising to £20m. Which certainly isnt bad for a player of his standing.

Its just easy to imagine more when you see other deals this window.

That said - fair comment above - I am quite surprised we are even willing to deal with WBA after the way they acted with the Berahino saga.

We've loaned them Pritchard and sold them Chadli since then, so I guess it's all water under the bridge.

Of course he is proven. He came in and did very well, hardly looked out of place. It's not his fault that Verts came back and Poch rarely rotates the centre halfs.
I didn't think he quite looked good enough in the games I saw him play. I can remember the away game against West Ham in the 2015/16 season when we could've gone top with a win. He got the run around by Eminike that night in what was (I think) Eminike's first game on loan at West Ham? He is one of only 2 or 3 players in the squad that it shouldn't be too hard to find an upgrade for.

To be fair to WBA there, I don't think they took too kindly to us waiting until deadline day before making sensible bids for him. Had we made a sensible bid earlier in the window (as WBA have done here for Wimmer) then the outcome probably would've been different.

I dont know, got the impression the chairman had a hard on for acting the big 'un from the moment we showed interest.

Constant mouthing off (classy) and ultimately cut his own nose off to spite his face.

He got fed up with us trying to engineer a move behind the scenes without putting in an offer. Our behavior wasn't particularly good when it came to that prospective transfer and I think in the end it became a point of principle for their chairman.

In the end they probably should've done the deal at the final amount offered by us in the final hour or so of the window, as they ended up losing out a lot more than we did, but our actions in the lead up to that were poor. I don't want to say too much more here, happy to do so via PM.

The Cult members on RAWK are distraught about this. Wimmer was suppose to go to SCBC as a replacement for VVD so the he could follow his dream of playing for Klapp and "the greatest club side in the world"™

Ah, makes it all worth it, then! :D

Southampton are after a tall Dutch central defender at Lazio

I'm sad to see Wimmer go, but if it's true that he's wanted to leave (can't blame him), then I understand we need to sell. Best of luck to the lad, did well in most of the matches he played for us.
Echoing my feelings on him, all the best lad.
