In light of the fact that Jan Vertonghen has been touted as a possible long-term replacem, ent for Ledley King ('good reading of the game', 'good organisational skils', 'decent pace' etc) I thought I would start a thread to collate any views people have on seeing him play against Manure tomorrow.

    So, here you go...

my view is that he has a cool name and should be signed on that basis immediately.

    6pm on Channel Five...

How the Mighty have stumbled a little bit into a competition with less prestige then the one they should be in...

(ok, so it's not quite as catchy.. but fallen seemed a little much imo)

there was some link in the press in december, he apparently told everyone hed signed for us iirc ( possibly same as Hazard 'im going to spurs' which translates as 'agents get your BB out')

Exactly the meaning of his quotes yesterday, I'm afraid. A descpicable 'come and get me' plea masterfully disguised as a Tottenham toss-off.

Stephen Caulker is Ledley's long term replacement, Vertonghen can be his back up

Not as excited about Vertonghen now that I've seen him play a couple of times. Excellent on the ball, but seems prone to one or two big errors every game. Doesn't have the pace to correct his mistakes.

He looked interesting yesterday, though he seemed content to hoof the ball forward a couple of times, but that could have been due to the lack of movement ahead of him....

He dived in twice , one time which led to a goal if I remember right. Bar that I did think he looked very calm and composed, definite leader material. I liked the cut of his jib.

Very impressed with him against Utd, playing against a top team and a world class striker ( allegedly) he looked the business.

    Didn't watch the Manure-Ajax game.

For those who did, any further impressions of 'our' Vertonghen? I read that Redknapp was watching the game..

Not seen him play. What are his strengths/weaknesses? Is he a centre back?
